IOTA and Lighthouse activations carried out by Dennis,
RZ1AK and his team. Bureau cards should be sent to RZ1AK.
QSL FROM MONGOLIA ---> During his
recent staying in Mongolia, Ken Claerbout, K4ZW took the
opportunity to speak with several of the local operators
concerning problems people are having with QSL cards from
Mongolia. They tossed around a few ideas for improving
the situation and decided to give the following a try.
For those who are interested, K4ZW will act as a
collection point for cards:
Cards must include an SAE and greenstamp (US dollar)
or NEW style IRC per callsign (the old style IRCs are
no longer good in Mongolia);
Do not include multiple callsigns in a single
envelope and do not put US postage on the return
envelope as the replies will be mailed from Mongolia;
At the appropriate time, Ken will box up the cards up
and ship them, probably to JT1BG for distribution,
via registered mail or DHL.
This will ensure that your cards get in country. From
there it is up to the guys to distribute the cards and answer
them. What Ken is asking in return, is a small donation to
help defray the cost of shipping. He will probably ship the
cards every couple of months depending on the volume received
and of course once he has enough to cover shipping expenses.
"Obviously I cannot guarantee you will receive a
card", Ken says. "Consider this an experiment. If
it works and there is sufficient interest, we'll keep it
going. If not, then at least we gave it a try".
VI3JPI ---> The VI3JPI activity from
Lady Julia Percy island (OC-251) logged 2883 QSOs in the
seven continents (AF 7, AN 2, AS 716, EU 1281, NA 661, OC
195, SA 21) during 52 hours of actual operating. They had
to reach the island by helicopter (four trips) because
the sea was too high. The weather was very wet and windy
the first two days, making operations quite difficult.
They were able to return by boat, but only after much
hard work moving the equipment down the 30m cliff face.
The four team members (namely Paul/VK3KXG, Peter/VK3QI,
Jack/VK3WWW and Tom/VK3ZZ) were active on 10m (158 SSB,
113 CW), 15m (173/31), 17m (88/171), 20m (1492/302), 30m
(33/220), 40m (2/87) and 80m (12 SSB), plus one QSO on 2
metres. [TNX VK3QI]
