425 DX NEWS MAGAZINE - The 425 DX News
monthly edition (August issue), edited by Maurizio Bertolino

In this issue you can find articles on CS5C (Culatra Island),
IOTA activation experiences by DL2GAC and S05X, as well as the

4S - A large group of Japanese operators will
be active (on 160-6 metres SSB, CW, RTTY, PSK31 and SSTV) from
Sri Lanka on 13-18 September. They plan to have five stations on
the air and to concentrate on North and South America. QSL each

9G - Alan, G3XAQ will operating (CW only) as
9G5XA from Accra, Ghana on 13-21 September. This time he will be
installing a WARC antenna at the Technical College club station
so listen for him primarily on those bands. QSL via home call,

C9 - Andre, ZS6WPX reports he will be active
as C91Z from Mozambique for the next few months starting from 8

CT - CT1GFK/P, CT1GPQ/P and CT2IHP/P will
operate (on 40, 20, 17 and 15 metres SSB, CW and possibly RTTY)
from Ilha das Ratas (not IOTA, DIP AL-13) between around 5 and 11

F - This year the Clipperton DX Club (http://cdxc.free.fr/)
celebrates its Silver Jubilee. Special call TM8CDX will be
activated on all bands and modes from 8 to 21 September for the

G - Weather permitting, Glyn/GW0ANA will be
active from Steep Holm Island (EU-120) on 10 September, from 11

I - Dario, IK4MED will be active as
IH9/IK4MED from Pantelleria (AF-018, IIA TP-001) on 14-26
September. He will operate mainly CW on 10-80 metres, plus SSB
and CW via Oscar 40 (U/S mode). QSL via home call, direct or

IS0 - Geza, HA4XG will be active as
IS0/HA4XG/p from Sardinia (EU-024) on 13-27 September. He plans
to operate mainly CW in his early morning and late evening hours
on 10-40 metres, with an emphasis on the WARC bands. QSL via home

JA - Yama, JJ1JGI will be active (on 15-40
metres CW and SSB) as JJ1JGI/8 from Rishiri or Rebun Island

JA - Look for JE7CWH/0 and JQ1SUO/0 to be
active (on 40, 30, 20, 17, 15, 12 and 10 metres CW and SSB) from
Awa-shima (AS-117) on 13-14 September. QSL via bureau. [TNX

JW - Jurgen, DJ3KR will be active (CW only,
mainly on 12, 17 and 30 metres) as JW/DJ3KR from Longyearbyen,

LA - The Skandinavisk Radioklubb will take
part in the IARU Region 1 Field Day (6-7 September) as LA3SRK/P
from Stokkoya (EU-036). They will have five stations on 160-10

LZ - Weather permitting, Hristo/LZ3FN and
Todor/LZ2TEO will operate from two lighthouses (namely Pomorie,
ARLHS BUL-018 and Tzarevo, BUL-031) on 6-7 September. QSL via

PJ2 - Geoff, W0CG will be active in his spare
time as PJ2DX from Curacao (SA-006) on 6-18 September. He plans
to participate in the All Asian DX SSB Contest (6-7 September)

PY0_spp - Joca, PS7JN has been active again
as ZW0S from St. Peter and St. Paul Rocks (SA-014) for a few
days. He expects to remain there through 17 September and to
operate RTTY, PSK31, SSB and SSTV during his free time, typically
between 17 and 2 UTC. His equipment includes a vertical antenna
for 10-40 metres and dipoles for the WARC bands. QSL via home

SP - Peter, SP5PB will be active as SP5PB/4
from Wigry National Park, as well as from a rare Polish district
for the SPPA award, from 8 September until the end of the month.

SV - Look for Michael, SV8/DF3IS to be active
on 40-10 metres SSB and CW from Thasos Island (EU-174) on 11-25

SV9 - A group of SV9s will be active as J49C
from Skinakas Observatory in central Crete (1750m a.s.l.) during
the IARU Region 1 Field Day SSB Contest (6-7 September). QSL via

UA - Vas/RU3SD and Serge/RU3ST plan to
operate as RU3SD/1 and RU3ST/1 from six islands in the IOTA White
Sea Coast Group (EU-147) between 6 and 14 September. QSL via home
calls, direct or bureau. They might also operate as UE3SFF/1 (QSL

V7 - Bruce, AC4G will operate again as V73CW
from Kwajalein (OC-028), Marshall Islands on 8-13 September. QSL

VK - Trevor, VK7TS will operate as VK7TS/4
from Magnetic Island (OC-171) on 6-10 September. Look for him on
10, 15 and 20 metres SSB. QSL via home call, direct or bureau.

VK - Peter/VK3QI, Keith/VK3FT, Paul/VK3AJJ
and Paul/VK3KXG plan to operate from the Baudin Rocks/Godfrey
Islands (OC-228) on 25-29 September. Look for them on the usual
IOTA frequencies SSB and CW, with an emphasis on 30 & 40
metres CW and 20, 17 & 15 metres SSB. Operating dates are
much dependant on weather conditions, which can be very
unpredictable at this time of the year. This will be a special
event, commemorating the 200th anniversary of the death of
Captain Nicolas Baudin, the French explorer who died in September
1803 on the island of Mauritius during his return to Europe from
exploration of the Australian coastline. A special commemorative
callsign has been applied for and the operators are particularly
interested in having contacts with as many French stations as

W - Tony, WF1N and Lou, W1DIG will be active
(on 0, 15, 20 and 40 metres SSB) from Appledore, Isles of Shoals
(NA-217) starting around 18 UTC on 5 September until about 12 UTC

W - The Long Island Amateur Radio Simplex
club will operate (on 40 and 20 metres SSB) as W2LIS from the USS
Intrepid air craft carrier in New York Harbor on 6 September.

DXCC NEWS ---> The following stations
from Bhutan have been approved for DXCC credit: A51AA,
A51KC, A51PK, A51UD, A51WD and A51YL.
PACIFIC TRIP ---> Willi, DJ7RJ will
continue being active as 5W0MW from Samoa (OC-097) until
14 September. He will then go to Tokelau (ZK3) and be
there from around 17 September until the 28th. Willi will
be back to Samoa until about 9 October, when he will move
to Vanuatu (YJ) from 10 to 19 October; his last stops
will be again at Samoa and then American Samoa. QSL via

QSL HV3SJ ---> All the logs for this
call sign have been destroyed and any reported operation

QSL KC4AAC (AN-012) ---> Larry, K1IED
reports that all QSL cards for contacts made between 4
August and 3 October 2002 have been sent out. For the
time being he has not any logs for QSOs prior or after
those dates.
QSL P29KM ---> Kazuo Miyamura, P29KM
(also H44H and H40H) reports he will be leaving PNG in
early October and his current address (P.O. Box 321, Port
Moresby, Papua New Guinea) will not be available any
longer. Unless you are 100% sure that your direct QSLs
can reach him no later than 30 September 2003, you should
address them to Dr. Kazuo Miyamura, 1-50-12 Kaji,
Hakodate 041-0852, Japan.
QSL VY0/W2NTJ ---> Cezar, VE3LYC
reports he has received VY0/W2NTJ's log for the period 7
July-24 August 2003. Jack logged 345 QSOs from Long
Island (NA-173), 119 QSOs from Kugong in the Belcher
Islands (NA-196) and a handful of contacts from near
Nemaska, Quebec (VE2). Operations from NA-196 took place
on 6-8 August and again on 16-17 August. QSL direct to
VE3LYC.

he is now the QSL manager also for Alex, RA0CL (ex
UA0CJQ).
SILENT KEY - Xavier Paradell, EA3ALV
reports the passing of Miquel Pluvinet, EA3DUJ, Executive
Director of CQ Radio Amateur (the Spanish version of CQ
Magazine) on 29 August.
