GOOD THINGS IN A SMALL PACKAGE. A recent
DXpedition provided important field, or perhaps more
appropriately stated, island testing of a new amplifier design.
The brainchild of two amateur radio operators, the amplifier uses
two MRF154 power MOSFETs and requires only 12 watts drive for 1KW
output. A standard airline cabin case, which is carry-on luggage
size, housed the whopping 16 pounds of equipment comprised of an
FT-900 transceiver, the custom amp and advanced switching power
supply.
THIS WEEKEND ON THE RADIO. Take your pick
from the All Asian DX Contest on CW, the SMIRK and West Virginia
QSO Parties. Rules for these on the air events appear in June QST
on page 99.
