DL4FDU/NP2AQ, DL7VOA, DL9GOA & DX News Letter, F6EXV, G3USF,
G4BUE & DX News Sheet, OZ8RO, SP5ELA, VE6SRC and VK1FF for
the following DX information.
4K2, FRANZ JOSEF LAND. The DXNS
would like to remind everyone that Sergey, R1FJZ will go QRT in
August, and at this time he will pick up his QSLs from his mail
drop of DF7RX.
9U BURUNDI. Jean-Pierre, F5FHI,
has changed his call to 9U5DX. He has been heard on 17 meters
CW/SSB recently between 0800 and 0930z. QSL via F2VX preferably
via REF bureau. All cards are automatically sent via bureau when
they receive diskettes from F5FHI. They are currently awaiting
one disk with the last 9000 QSOs made as 9U/F5FHI. Also, Alfredo,
9U/EA1FH, is now signing 9U5CW, but we do not know if he has
changed his QSL info. Recently, Jean-Pierre telephoned his
manager to tell him both licenses were being mailed to France for
relay to ARRL for DXCC acceptance. Peter, ON6TT, is planning a
short visit before the end of April and has spoken to Alfredo
about being active on 80 and 160 meters. Alfredo does not have
antennas for those bands, but Peter will take his 160/80m
vertical and PK900 with him, and there is a possibility of
160/80m and RTTY acitvity during the last weekend in April.
HOT! RUMOR OF THE WEEK.... A
well known group of JA DXers (who was active as XY1HT) is
scheduled for a visit to North Korea. They are trying to get a
license similar to what they did at XY1HT. Keep your ears open
and fingers crossed, and pray for sunspots! Meanwhile, a
Hungarian couple will be on tour to North Korea. Sanyi, HA7VK
(ex-XU7VK and XU95HA) and his wife Judit, HA7RJ, will arrive in
Phenjan (Phjongjang) on the 21st of May. Sanyi is currently
looking for help to obtain a license in P5-land. He and his wife
will be there until the end of July. KEEP YOUR FINGERS CROSSED!!!
J6, GRENADA. Eric, F5CCO, plans
to be on the air between June 27th and July 4th (While on his
honeymoon, BOY is he BRAVE!). QSL via homecall.
JUST A REMINDER! Begin looking
for the TI9X DXpedition to start later this week (may be April
26th). Refer to OPDX.250.
JW, SVALBARD. Rag, OZ8RO, states
he was bitten by the "polar bug" and will once again be
active from here as JW5HE, May 1-5th. He will focus on the new
bands (i.e. 10 MHz will most likely be most productive).
LIGHTHOUSE (FAL-03) DXPEDITION. On
May 24, 25 and 26th, there will be a station signing the special
callsign CT8FMX from the lighthouse of Ponta da
Piedade/Lagos/Algarve. This operation is valid for
"Portugueses Lighthouse Award" (REF number FAL-03).
There will be activity on 80-10 meters. QSL via CT1FMX, Jorge,
P.O. BOX 189, 2562 Torres Vedras, Portugal
HELVETIA CONTEST. This will take
place next weekend, April 27-28th (Saturday 1300z to Sunday
1300z). Activity will be on CW/SSB 160-10 meters. This is a good
chance to build up your Canton total for the Swiss Helvetia Award
which requires confirmation from all 26 Cantons.
NEW BEACON. The 4X6TU beacon is
now operational from Tel Aviv on 14100, 18110, 21150, 24930 and
28200 kHz with transmissions lasting 10 seconds every three
minutes on each frequency in turn. Stepped power (max 100w) to
vertical. 4X6TU joins ZS6DN, LU4AA, YV5B, on these frequencies
and with the same transmission pattern.
OH0, ALAND ISLAND. Dave,
currently signing OH2/K8MN, will be heading for OH0 this coming
Friday, April 26th, and will be on the air from evening (probably
2200z) through mid-Sunday (will QRT around 1300z). He will be
taking an amp and plans to be as active as he can be on all
bands/modes. He is also planning to take RTTY gear and will make
every effort to hand out QSOs on that mode. Look for him on CW at
least 25 kHz up from the bottom (so as to give U.S.
Advanced/General gang a shot) when he is looking toward North
America. On SSB, wherever he can find a spot where that he
doesn't interfere with a net. QSL via WA8JOC. Bureau cards can go
to his U.S. call ONLY for this trip. Any QSLs which come to
Finland will be answered very, very late since Dave will forward
them to WA8JOC.
P4, ARUBA. Tom, K8CX, will be
active as P43WLP (but was hoping to receive the callsign P40CX)
until April 27th. He told OPDX that he would be active on 9 HF
bands. QSL via K8CX.
TO3, REUNION ISLAND. The DXNL
reports that Bernd, DL1VJ, and Heinz, F5NRG, will work as TO3R
during the CQWW WPX CW Contest (May 25-26th). Before and after
the contest they will be on the air as FR/homecall. QSLs via
F6KLS (French bureau) which is the clubcall of the SL-DX-Club.
"QSLs for EY8/NP2AQ, EZ0AA,
EK9RM, 4L0MR and DL4FDU must be sent to the following APO
address," states Ron, DL4FDU/NP2AQ. Cards sent to the
callbook address of NP2AQ will be returned since he has been away
from that QTH for 5 years. QSLs must be sent to Ron at the
following address: Ron Maples, PSC-115 (ESC), APO AE 09213-0115
QSL UPDATE. According to Bob,
KK6EK, all the direct QSLs for XR0Y and XR0Z have been sent out,
a total of almost 20,000 cards. A separate card was generated for
each QSO. Each card was preprinted with the general information
about the project, then over-printed with the QSO information and
the barcode. ADDED NOTE: All OPDX InterNet Subscribers will
receive an additional bulletin containing Bob's press release.
UPCOMING IOTA CONTEST ACTIVITY.
Eric, F5CCO, states he and others will be active for the IOTA
contest the last weekend of July, from EU-095 (ME-004), Planier
Island located in the Provence-Cote D'Azur Region Group. For the
contest all operators will be signing with the home call: F6JSZ/P
on CW, F5CCO/P on SSB and F1IXQ/P on satellite. They plan to be
active on all bands including the satellites. QSL via the bureau
or to the following home call addresses: F6JSZ - Mark A. Kentell
P.O BOX 76, 19002 Tulle Cedex, France // F1IXQ - Michel Gueugnot,
208 Rue de L'oradou, 63000 Clermont Ferrand, France // F5CCO -

VK9C, COCOS-KEELING. Operators
VK4FW (ex-VK4CRR), VK2IVK (YL), VK4DHM, and possibly more will be
active May 18-31st. The callsign will be announced at a later
day. Operations will be on all HF bands with activity primarily
on SSB, with the possibility of some CW activity. QSL via VK4FW,
Bill Horner, 26 Iron St, Gympie, QLD 4570, AUSTRALIA
VK0, MARQUARIE ISLAND. Warren,
VK0WH, usually can be found only on Monday, Tuesday or Thursday,
operating 40 meters CW. Check around 7009 kHz between 1000 and
1100z for Warren and he usually listens up 3 kHz. Also, he does
sometimes shows up on 14260 kHz (or 14038) with his QSL Manager.
He is reported to be there until December of 1996. QSL via VK9NS.
VP2E, ANGUILLA. JH4IFF and
JH4EZI will be active as VP2EFF and VP2EZI, respectively, April
29th through May 3rd. Operations will be on 160-10 meters on
CW/SSB/RTTY. There is also a slight chance that JH4IFF will be
active also as FS/N2HNQ afterwards.
YI, IRAQ. ZYGI, SP5ELA, from the
Warsaw University of Technology RC (SP5PBE) reports that Tom,
YI9CW, (Bagdad,Iraq) continues to be active daily until May 20,
