Thanks to the Northern Ohio Amateur Radio
Society, Northern Ohio DX Association, Ohio/Penn PacketCluster
Network, K4CEF, W5IJU & Island News, WB6VGI, NL7TB, DF4RD,
DL9GOA & the DX News Letter, F6AJA, G4BUE & the DX News
Sheet, JA1IDY, LU1DZ, ON6JG and W. M. Loeschman following DX
information.
3V, TUNISIA. The DXNS reports
that Eddie, W6/G0AZT, will be active October 9-13th, from 3V8BB.
Operations will be mostly RTTY 80-10 meters low power. QSL direct
only.
5R, MADAGASCAR. This is just a
reminder! Look for Jean Michel, F6AJA, who is visiting Gerard's,
5R8EN, QTH and will be active from August 18th to September 8th.
Both will probably be active from Nosy Bé (IOTA AF-057) starting
August 20th (or 21st) to August 24th as 5R8EN/P. Operations will
be on SSB and CW. Jean Michel has taken some RTTY equipment with
him for Gerard and perhaps after Nosy Be they will be on the air
with RTTY.
7P, LESOTHO. Martin, G4FUI, is
active as 7P8/G4FUI on CW/SSB. He will be there until the
beginning of December. QSL via homecall.
CY0, SABLE ISLAND. If you missed
the CY0AA operation you will have another chance in October.
Murry, WA4DAN, plans to be active as WA4DAN/CY0 October 22-29th,
which includes the CQWW SSB Contest. There will be other members
of the team which include Ken/V73C/AH9C, Bob/KW2P, Atsi/VK2BEX
and Ron/AA4VK.
J8, St. VINCENT. Buzz, N5FTR,
will be active from September 2-7th. Buzz is going to request a
J8 call but may have to sign J8/N5FTR. Operation will be mainly
on SSB, but CW gear will be taken. Those wishing for a CW contact
will have to be patient as Buzz is "relearning" the
code. Operation will be with 100 watts to a Sommer vertical
antenna from a beachfront hotel. QSL via Buzz's home call address
in any call book.
KG4, GUANTANAMO BAY. Larry,
WB6VGI, will once again be active from KG4 land for a 2 week
period starting on the 10th of September. Look for KG4ML on the
WARC bands (primary bands) and others as requested. Most of the
Guantanamo ops use the other bands so the KG4 card isn't as hard
to get on these. QSL via WB6VGI CBA.
KH4, MIDWAY ISLAND. By the time
you read this, the big AH0W/KH4 operation should have started
ands run through the 25th. QSL via KE7LZ. For more details read
OPDX.263 and OPDX.265.
LU6Z QSLS ARE IN THE MAIL! Alberto,
LU1DZ, reports to OPDX that the QSLs for the LU6Z South Orkney
Island DX operation by a CW group from Argentina are in the mail
and/or the bureau since 3 weeks ago.
SU, EGYPT. An Egyptian DX net
called SU DX Net meets Fridays and Saturdays at 1500z on 14220
kHz. Operators who are usually present included SU1ER, SU1SK,
SU1GS and SU3AM.
SV8, IONIAN ISLAND (Greece). SV1DPL
and SV1CID plan to be active from this island (EU-052) and
several other Greek islands until the end of the month. Activity
will be on 160-10 meters. QSL via SV1CID.
SV9, CRETE. Island News reports
that Ivan, IK7VEK, will be active August 21-29th, as SV9/IK7VEH.
Activity will be maninly SSB. QSL to CBA.
TT, CHAD. TT8SP has been very
active over the past few weeks. His activity includes operations
on the WARC bands and mainly on CW. Check 18070 kHz around 1630z,
10102 kHz around 2330z and 20 meters (between 14003 and 14019)
after 2000z. He has also been heard on 3500 kHz around 0430z. QSL
via F5OIJ.
USI (United States Island Award Program)
NEWS/ALERT. The North Shore Radio Club (IL) will be
activating several Illinois islands on Saturday, August 24th,
starting around 1500z and ending around 2000z. Watch for N9LUR,
N9CHQ and KF9YL (Fred, Mike and Fred). QSL w/SASE to KF9YL. Only
3 Illinois islands have been activated to date. Stop by on 14260
kHz to help the guys qualify the new islands. Meanwhile the
following stations will be active in the upcoming 2nd Annual W/VE
Island Contest (September 14-15th). Details on this contest will
be forthcoming in a future OPDXB.
Jim, KA3UNQ, will "rover" from RI-03S, RI-05S,
RI-06S, RI-07S (all NA-031), MA-03S, MA-22R and MA-23R.
John/NL7TB and gang will "rover" from WA-063R
through WA-066R.
VK0, MACQUARIE ISLAND. It has
been reported that Warren, VK0WH, had apparently agreed to show
up on 40 meters on 7189 kHz between 0400 and 0830z on Wednesday.
Jim Smith, VK9NS, reportedly "EMCEED" the list
operations, and comments from him seem to indicate that they may
do it again, but he does not know when. Also, Jim mentioned that
Warren had been on 160 meters but not 80 to date. Apparently,
Warren has been experimenting with new or repaired antennas, and
he has been successful. OPDX will try to keep you updated.
This site will provide mileage and bearing between major
world cities. It will also paint a map showing the two
choices. It is at URL: http://www.indo.com/distance/
XW, LAOS. The DXNL reports:
"Andreas, DK9LM, states that the officials in Laos have
several licence applications from DL, UA, JA and PA operators.
Due to the high number of applications Andreas hopes to receive a
positive answer from Vientiane in the near future".
XY, MYANMAR. Reports from Asia
indicate that Kan, JA1BK, and Martti, OH2BH, will be leaving for
Yangon (XZ) on the 23rd of August. They will be joined by Warren,
KF7AY. It's not certain if they will be on the air or not in
Yangon, but it does not hurt to listen and look for them.
IS THE TIME RIGHT? Over the past
few years, several members of the Northern Ohio DX Association
(NODXA) have talked and thought about having a DX Convention in
Cleveland. Now that the International DX Convention is no longer
being held a week before the Dayton HamVention at Visalia, should
NODXA take the step in having the first annual "North Coast
DX Convention/EXPO"? Messages read on InterNet from the DX
Community seem to indicate they want something the weekend before
Dayton. Just think of it, a DX Convention and Dayton Hamvention
within a week and a three and one half hour drive between the
two. Cleveland could easily fill the days between the DX
Convention and HamVention with visits to the Rock-Roll Hall of
Fame, Science Museum, Art Museum, Natural History Museum, Auto
Museum, the Cleveland's MetroParks Rain Forest/Zoo and much more.
Maybe Cleveland is ready to have its first DX Convention. NODXA
would like to poll the DX Community on their views and thoughts
of this possible event. We would ask that you answer the
following questions below. Answers can be sent via E-mail to: ncdxc_expo@barf80.nshore.org
Would you attend the convention in Cleveland if it was
held the weekend before the Dayton HamVention (or
possibly the weekend after so as not to conflict with
"Mother's Day)?
Where will you be traveling from to attend the
convention?
What type of forums would you attend (technical,
DXpeditions, etc.)?
OPTIONAL
Would you/group/organization be interested in conducting
a forum?
Would you/group/organization be interested in helping to
sponsor the convention?
Any other comments/input you may have.
Your answers are very important to help us make our decision.
Also, time is an important fact to get the ball rolling on this
event. NODXA thanks you for your input..... 73 de Tedd KB8NW
