4U, UNITED NATIONS HQ. 4U51UN
(aka 4U1UN) was heard active on 20 meters CW and SSB. This
special callsign will be used until the end of October to
celebrate the 51st anniversary of the United Nations. QSL ONLY to
WB8LFO.
5X, UGANDA. Leif, SM0BFJ,
reports that Gus, 5X1D, is active every day between 1730-1800z on
50.150 MHz. He also states Gus is the first station ever to be
active from Uganda on 6 meters. QSL 5X1D via SM0BFJ.
ARGENTINA BEACON. Mats, LU9AUY,
reports having a part-time beacon (LU9AUY/BCN) active on 28197
kHz running on a TS-870 (10 watts) into a 3 element Cushcraft A3S
Yagi at 30 meters. Mats leaves the beam pointed at Europe
(somedays to Caribbean and the U.S.). The beacon is active on his
weekday afternoons... (as he is working) ... then it goes QRT for
normal operation. Mats hopes to receive any reports soon.
A5, BHUTAN. "The DX News
Sheet" report A57A was reported on the UK DX Packet Cluster
at 2209z, September 18th, on 7001 kHz giving his QSL manager as
JH1AJT. There was speculation in 1995 that Zorro, JH1AJT, who was
active from A5 in 1994, may be active later in the year.
A6, UNITED ARAB EMIRATES. Don,
WB2DND will once again be active from here November 3-8th, from
A61AD's QTH. Activity will be on all bands including 160 meters.
Don has reportedly shipped a 1000 feet of wire to put up an
inverted L and beverage aimed at Europe and North America.
BRYLA NET. BRYLA (PY-YLs Net),
which started in July 1975, meets on Wednesdays on 14248 kHz from
1900-2100z. Interested operators gather together with the
Brazilian YLs and DXers from around the world so they can have a
chance to make contacts to work for their BRYLA Award. Net
controller has been Teresa, PT2TF, who has been sharing the
frequency with Alzira/PT2LS, Helt/PY1AIP and Tessy/PS8YL.
C6, BAHAMAS (UPDATE). As
reported in OPDX.271, John, K3TEJ, and Ed, WA3WSJ, will be in the
Bahamas on Great Abaco Island. They will be there from November
19-26th, to operate CW and SSB on all bands (160-10 meters
including WARC bands). During the CQWW CW Contest they will be
using C6A/K3TEJ. QSL via K3TEJ. Meanwhile, the DXNS reports that
Mike, W7FKF, will be active October 22-28th, as W7FKF/C6A. Mike
will also participate in the CQWW SSB Contest probably as C6AHU,
160-10 meters near the IOTA frequencies. QSL via WJ8C.
CY9, ST. PAUL ISLAND. Weather
continues to plaque the CY9AOE operation. Don, VE1AOE, and Ken,
VY2RU (VE1RU), orginally planned to leave September 18th for this
operation.
FW, WALLIS & FUTUNA ISLANDS. DJ2EH
DJ4OI and DL8NBH will be active between October 22nd and November
4th, signing FW/homecalls. Their QSL route will be announced
later. They plan to be active on 160-10 meters CW, SSB and RTTY.
There will be an emphasis on the WARC bands and the lowbands.
KC6, REP. OF BELAU. Members of
the Oklahoma DX Association are returning to Belau. N5CG (KC6GG)
and N5OK (KC6OK) will be arriving in Koror on the 12th of
October. They will be operating all bands from 10 through 160
meters, including the WARC bands. Operation will be limited to CW
and SSB with participation in the CQWW SSB Contest and possibly
the CQWW CW Contest. Normal DX operating frequencies will be
used. QSL to: Belau DXpedition, Box 88, Morris, OK 74445-0088.
OD, LEBANON. Thor, TF1MM,
continues to be active as OD5/TF1MM from Naqoura, South Lebanon.
This is the UN headquarters and he has been permitted to use a 16
element Log Periodic. He was heard on 14016 kHz at 1545z and
10103 kHz at 1950z. QSL via 4Z4DX.
QSL NEWS AND UPDATES...
Declan, EI6FR, reports all direct QSL requests for the
EJ7NET Blasket Island (EU-007, June 1996), which was
activated by the WestNet DX Group, were mailed Tuesday
morning (September 24th). Only a handful of cards were
held because of requests for other operations. These will
be answered before the end of the week. All bureau cards
will now be made out to all those appearing in the
Blasket logs....
Roder, WD8SDL, reports that the CY0AA QSL cards are at
the printer. He is hopeful that the cards will be
received from the printer in the next week, but whenever
they arrive he will get them in the mail ASAP. Please
hold off second QSLs until after the first of the
year....
RS-12 SATELLITE DX (From WU1F).
Joel, WU1F, located in Massachusetts (Grid Square FN42), reports
the following stations worked on RS-12 Mode K: GW0DZL, G3KMQ,
G3LUW, OZ1AED, VY2RU, V31DE, OZ8ABE, TI5RLI and DF8TJ.

VK0 HEARD ISLAND GATHERING (UPDATE).
Bob, KK6EK, reports that the Heard Island team was gathering this
past weekend in the San Francisco Bay Area for training and
equipment checkout. Also, this was reported to be an open house
for all who were interested in meeting the team and seeing one of
the shelters that they would be using on Heard Island, complete
with radio, computers, galley, and sleeping facilities. The
gathering took place on Coast Guard Island, Oakland. Meanwhile,
this week an announcement of the addition of Arno Metzler,
OE9AMJ, and Michael Mraz, N6MZ, to the Heard Island team was
made. As of this moment the team is:

VP9, BERMUDA. Steve, YV5DTA/W4,
will once again be active from here October 6-11th. If he can
escape from his work duties, look for him signing YV5DTA/VP9 on
the regular DX windows.
ZK1, SOUTH COOK (also North Cook?). The
"DX News Letter" reports that Gun, DF4DI, will be on
the island from November 2nd for at least five months. Gun will
be active as ZK1DI on all nine HF-bands. Gun intends to go to
Manihiki Island (North Cook) for a week. Gun's manager is DK1RV.

machines that send single "BEEPS" every second will not
have to do this step.) 3) The phone will pick up and after the
"BEEP" leave your voice message or FAX.
