following DX information.
3B9, RODRIGUES ISLANDS. Jon,
EA2KL, and Luis, EA3ELM, are making plans to be active from
Rodriguez Island, possibly October 31st to November 5th. If
everything receives an OK from the Ministery of Communications in
in Mauritius (3B8), they plan to be active on 80-10 meters
including the WARC bands. Operations will be on CW, SSB and RTTY.
The QSL information was not provided at this time.
8P, BARBADOS. Jack/K3KG,
Steve/(callsign not provide), John/N6YRU and Vic/KI6IM will be
active as 8P9Z as a Multi/Single effort in the CQWW SSB Contest,
October 26-27th.
9G, GHANA. Steve, PA3GBQ,
reports he will once again spend his holiday in Ghana. He will be
there in time to participate in the ARRL CW Contest (and
possibily the SSB one also). His callsign will be 9G5BQ, and he
has some plans to operate from on top of a mountain with nothing
between USA and antenna than air. He has not yet decided what
category to run (Single Op/ Multi or Single Band). Steve states
he will also try to get a license for 160 meter this year (This
is not allowed with a 9G5 callsign.).
A3, TONGA. Bob, W7TSQ, will be
active as A35SQ from October 16-28th. His operation will include
participation in the CQWW Contest. His plans are to operate all
bands except perhaps 160. On his arrival, Bob will be helping
Paul (KK6H), A35RK, install new antennas. By the way (BTW), Bob,
is the QSL Manager for Paul. QSLs for A35SQ and A35RK go ONLY to
W7TSQ with NO to A3 bureau active.
HEARD AND WORKED ON RS-12. This
week Joel, WU1F (from FN42 - MA), reports EI4CL, 9Y4VU, F5RRS,
EA3AHE and EI7CC were active. He also reports RS-15 is now
working Mode K (15 up and 10 down).
IG9, LAMPEDUSA ISLAND (ITALY). Fabio,
I4UFH, reports after good results in the 1995 CQWW Phone Contest
(IG9W), a team will once again be active from IOTA AF-019 for the
1996 CQWW Phone Contest effort. Operations will be from October
20-27th. This year they will cover all the 6 band, as a Single
Band/Single Op effort. Look for the following (callsign - and
band): IG9/IV3TAN - 160 meters, IG9/I4UFH - 80, IG9/IT9GSF - 40,
IG9/IK2QEI - 20, IG9/IT9EQO - 15 and IG9/IT9GEZ - 10. There will
be a little activity before the Contest to tune-up the equipment.
QSLs will be handled by IV3TAN.
KH8, AMERICAN SAMOA. Members of
the Yamata ARS will be active this week from Ofu Island starting
October 9-11th. Look for operators JA1JQY, JA1KJW, JR1LVB,
JA3MCA, JA8VE, JA0KNM, JD1BIK and 7L3MNH to sign homecall/KH8.
Operations will be CW, SSB and satellites with activity on 80-10
meters. QSL to CBA.
ON THE ROAD AGAIN (or should we say
sea!). Ron, ZL1AMO, is once again and currently active
from Fiji as 3D2RW. Activity is mainly on CW, 80, 40 and 15
meters. He was heard also on SSB operating around 3796-3799 kHz
at 1145z. On October 2nd, Ron stated he would be leaving for T2
(Tuvalu) soon and would be active as T28RW. QSL via ZL1AMO.
QSL NEWS AND UPDATES...
Whitey, K1VV, states he is "NOT" the QSL Manger
for EP2EXX. He has been receiving DX QSLs every day for
EP2EXX and doesn't know how he got listed as his manager.
The ABRA-DX Brazilian Association has informed OPDX that
the first QSLs for the DXpedition from Coroa Vermelha
Island (last January, ZW6C and ZX6C) were sent out. They
would like to thank all those who made a contact with
them, and those for being patient on waiting for the
cards. They state the cards are worth the wait.
CY0AA QSLs. Ken, WA8JOC, reports the final proof was OK'd
on Monday, September 30th, and WJ2O should be printing
them within the next several days. They hope to have the
cards within 1-2 weeks at the QSL Manager's QTH. They
already have the labels printed for all cards received
direct, with the exception of "NOT IN LOG", or
band QSO problems. "98% are ready to go!",
states Ken. The QSL will be a bifold, 2 faced QSL, and it
will be well worth the wait for all. Finally, Ken states,
"... Thank you for your patience, and financial
support which has continued. The almost 16000 QSOs we
made from CY0AA, made many many hams very happy for an
all time "NEW ONE", we've been told countless
times in the QSL envelopes. We're glad we were able to do
it for you. On behalf of Mike/VE9AA, Wayne/K8LEE, and
myself... Good DX and 73! KEN, WA8JOC"
The LU6Z GACW Manager, Raul, LU6EF, reports that 1850
direct QSLs have been answered, with some cards going out
through the bureau. They also report that about 15 to 20%
of the mail sent to them have had the envelopes opened
and resealed. They also believe some cards did not make
it because the envelopes were stolen for the green stamps
and IRCs. Raul states answering the cards is a slow
process because it is a "ONE MAN-HANDMADE
AFFAIR". An announcement will be made to let
everyone know when all the cards have been answered so
that individuals can send a second request if they did
not receive their cards. ADDED NOTE: Sending cards to
LU-land today is a big problem. They recommend NOT to
send green stamps, but IRCs instead. DO NOT PUT callsigns
on the envelopes and they suggest to send mail to: Box 9,
1875 Wilde, Baires, Argentina, ONLY.
Leif, SM0BFJ, (QSL Manager for Gus, 9Q5TE, 9X/SM5DIC,
5X1D) reports that on December 31, 1996, he will close
the log and QSL for 9Q5TE for the period August 1989 -
April 1992.
ZV0, MARTIM VAZ ISLAND. Just a
reminder that Stuckert/PT2GTI, Paul/PT2NP and Lunkes/PT2HF from
the ABRA-DX Brazilian Association will be active this week. The
team was to be active as of October 7th, but because of a delay,
look for them on October 8th (Stay tuned on the SSB IOTA
frequencies and 5/10 kHz from the low edge bands on CW). The team
will be taking a helicopter trip from Trindade to Martim Vaz
Island, which is a big rock of about 130 meters high over
Atlantic Ocean. It will be the first operation in the history of
that island and the first time that somebody inhabited it. This
will be a short operation only lasting two days. Look for the
callsigns: ZV0MB for SSB and ZV0MV for CW. QSL only via PT2GTI
(OK in CBA). Cards can be sent either directly or via the bureau.
Their land coordinator, Ari, PT2BW, will assist them on the
Brazil DX Net (14240 kHz, 0900z).
ZK3, TOKELAU. The "Island
News" reports Yvette, F3YA, is active for the next three
years as ZK3YA. With operation limited to six hours per day due
to power restrictions, look for Yvette on 7003 kHz between
1000-1100z. QSL via home callsign.
