SPECIAL EDITOR'S NOTE: My family (wife/OPDX's
chief proof-reader Linda, Tedd (TJ), Katie) and I (KB8NW) would
like to wish all DXers, Contesters and OPDX readers a very

3B, MAURITIUS. Laurent, F5PYI,
will be active as 3B8/F5PYI until January 3rd. He is reportedly
using a FT-707 and dipoles. From time to time, he will be using
3B8CF's station. Look for him on: SSB - 3799, 7045, 14195, 14260,
21260, 28495 and CW : 20 kHz up.
6Y, JAMAICA. Start looking for
Gianni, I5JHW, on December 29th, to be active as 6Y5HW or 6Y0HW.
Activity will last until January 12th, on all bands with
operations on CW/SSB/RTTY.
7O, YEMEN. Zorro, JH1AJT, and
DJ9ZB, may be QRT by the time you read this. If you do not work
them, there is GOOD NEWS! Xavier, EA3BHK, overheard Zorro
announce that he was already invited by the Yemen authorities to
come back next year, and that it would be at the end of April,
1997.
FR5, REUNION ISLAND. F6AFJ will
be active as FR5GM from December 25th to February 15th. He will
be on SSB on 20 and 15 meters from 1100-1200z and again from
1600-1800z.
HR, HONDURAS. Bob, KS9W, and
Jerry, K9BG, will be active from January 8th through January
15th, as HR3/home calls. Jerry will operate primarily CW and Bob
will operate CW/RTTY while SSB activity will be minimal. They
will be on all bands (160-10 meters), and Jerry will also do some
satellite operations. QSL to their respective home calls.
JD, OGASAWARA. Just a reminder
that a group of JA operators will be active from Chichi Island
(IOTA AS-031) for a very short time. They will be active from
here December 23-25th. Look for JA4GXS/JD1, JF4LNO/JD1 (a YL) and
JN4AWW/JD1 to be active on 160-10 meters SSB/CW. QSL via JA4GXS.
KH2, GUAM. Jim, KH2D, will be
active on 160 meters for the next several months. His operations
will be primarly on 1828 kHz from 0800z until 1500z. When
possible, he will be on during his sunrise around 2030z looking
for European stations. QSLs direct to K8NA or direct to his
callbook address.
LONG PATH OPENING. John,
K1ER/KH6, reports those in Hawaii or on the West Coast may want
to watch 20 meters for a long path opening from the Middle East
and the Arabian Peninsula between 0330 to 0430z. Stations heard:
7O1A, 9K2GS, A61AJ, A61AN, A61AM and A41LZ.
P5, NORTH KOREA (ed. The
following was received just before print and has not been checked
out. It may be FACT or RUMOR.) A message on one of the PBBSs
states, "EA1MK says that Martti Laine was in Spea// //Spain
the first week in December for the URE (like ARRL) annual
convention. Martti announced that P5 would be activated before
May 1st with a big operation; more likely in March or
April."
PY0, ST. PETER & ST. PAUL ROCKS. The
DXNL reports PS7KM and friends are planning to be active from
here in the same time frame as the VK0IR (Heard Island) activity
in 1997.
PS8, ATALAIA ISLAND. Look for
PY8JA/p to be active from here. This is not an IOTA island but is
good for a Brazilian award (DIB-60). Activity will be from
December 29-31st. Modes, times and frequencies are: SSB - 1900z,
14160 kHz; CW - 2000z, 14010 kHz and CW - 2100z, 7010 kHz. QSL
via: P.O. BOX 5056, 66601.970 Belem, PA, Brazil, or via Bureau.
PZ, SURINAME. (Just a reminder!)
Mako, JA1OEM, who is currently signing FY/JA1OEM, on 30,40 and 80
meters CW in French Guiana, will be back in Suriname on December
24th. He will be active on low bands as PZ5HP. Mako will be
leaving Suriname on January 12, 1997. QSL to JA1OEM (CBA).
QSL INFO AND NEWS...
YUTAKA "YUKI", JA1OGX, wants to advise everyone
that QSLs for his XX9TQY operation from the island group
of Macau, Taipa Island (IOTA AS-075), go to his home
call: Yutaka Tanabe, 1-28-32, Kamitakaido, Suginami,
Tokyo 168 Japan. His operation took place November 1-4th.

Claude, F5GTW, QSL Manager for FT5WE, states that all
directs and bureau requests for the days between December
29th (1995) and August 29th (1996) have been sent out
(around 7000 QSLs!). The only exceptions (less than 200
cards) are cards that Samuel, FT5WE, has to do a search
for callsigns in the handwritten log. Samuel will return
to France next March. Logs for August 30th to November
5th will be arriving soon and will be replied to as soon
as possible.
Dominique, F5SJB, states he has sent out all cards for
the TM5CW operation.
TI9, COCOS ISLANDS. The DXNS and
several other bulletins report that Carlos, TI4CF, will be active
for a few days (or maybe two weeks) starting December 21st.
Presumably using the callsign TI9CF. Activity will have an
emphasis on 160 and 80 meters.
VK9W & VK0, WILLIS ISLAND AND
MACQUARIE ISLAND. There has been several reports that
the newly founded Oceania Radio DX Group (ODXG) plans to become
active from Willis Island in 1997 and from Macquarie Island in
1998 or 1999.
VK0 HEARD ISLAND INTERNET REFLECTOR IS
ONLINE. The Heard expedition's reflector will be the
main forum in which you, the audience, can participate in their
expedition. Through the reflector, you will be able to pass them
your feedback. It will be the focal point for all updates and
feedback coming from the expedition team on the island. Their
pilot stations will broadcast general info on the island, the
environment, their setup, the team, the challenges they are
encountering, and other information of interest. With only a few
days to go before the first team leaves for Reunion Island, they
urge you to join the expedition team today. Here's how to
subscribe to the Heard reflector (in 2 steps):

VP8, SOUTH SHETLAND ISLANDS. Begin
looking for Mark, SP3GVX, to be active from the Polish Henryk
Arctowski Base (ex HF0POL) on King George Island. It is currently
unknown what Mark's callsign will be. His plans for activity will
be to emphasize the lowerbands, SSTV and satellite operations.
QSL via SP3FYM.
VP8, FALKLAND ISLANDS. Brian,
ZD7BJ, will be active as VP8CWN for the next two years. The DXNL
reports he can be found regularly after his sked with his XYL
(ZD7XY on St. Helena Island) on 14240 kHz at 2000z.
Z3, MACEDONIA (former Yugoslav Republic).
Jan, OH3MIG, will be here for the next 6-8 months as
Z38/OH3MIG. His activity will be on all bands CW/SSB. QSL via
OH3GZ. Meanwhile, Venco, Z31JA, has been active on 40 meters CW
(around 7009 kHz between 2315 and 0130z). QSL via WA4JTK. Z32XA
has been active on 80 meters CW (within 10 kHz from bottom of
band edge) between 0000 and 0515z. QSL via KM6ON.
