50th ANNIVERSARY NCDXC. The
Northern Calif. DX Club (NCDXC) is currently celebrating the 50th
anniversary of the club. The W6TI club station has been active
since Oct. 10, 1996, and as part of the celebration, they will
operate for 1 year with various club members in the pilot seat.
DX stations who work 50 NCDXC club members qualify for a nice
certificate. If you work the club station W6TI/50 you get credit
for 10 QSO's. Information about the 50th celebration and a list
of NCDXC members may be found at the WEB site:

worked 135 countries and also the VK0IR on 20,40, and 80m.

8P9, BARBADOS. Steve, K2WE, will
be operating for 1 week starting February 4th. Steve will pick up
an 8P9 callsign upon his arrival on the island. He will operate
160-10 meters including the WARC bands on both SSB and CW. QSL
via home call or previous callsign NI2C. Also, look for AA4NC and
Steve, K4MA, to operate from the 8P9Z's station on Barbados from
February 27th through March 4th. Activity will be on all bands
and all modes including RTTY. They will operate Multi/Single in
the ARRL DX SSB Contest. The callsign is unknown at this time.
All QSLs go to K4MA (ex-KI4HN).
8Q7, MALDIVES. The "DX News
Sheet" reports Hans/DL8NBE, Rolf/HB9DIF, and his wife
Manuele, hope to be active in March as 8Q7BE (SSB/RTTY) and 8Q7BV
(CW) on all HF bands with two transceivers and GP, dipoles and LW
antennas. QSL to home calls bureau only.
ARGENTINA ANTARCTICA BASE. LU1ZI,
from the scientfic station Jubany, which is located on De Mayo
Island (King George Island) in the South Shetland group, is
operated by LU8DEK, Abel. ABEL will be active until March 1st. He
normally can be found on 40 meters CW some nights. Check between
0230 and 0330z. The direct QSL route is: Radioestacion LU1ZI,
Direccion Nacional Del Antartico, Cerrito 1248, Buenos Aires,
Argentina. It is recommended to send 2-3 IRCs with a SAE.
CY9AA, ST. PAULS ISLAND (UPDATE). Although
the CY9AA operation is still months away, Mike, VE9AA, has
provided the following details. There has been a new operator
added to the DXpedition. Operators are: VE9AA/Mike/ Group Leader,
VE1PZ/Doug and K7BV/Dennis. The dates will be June 13-21st,
maximizing the chances for a CY9 QSO on the higher bands via
Sporadic E. Bands will be 160-2 meters inclusive. Beams, amps,
and a FULL SIZE vertical for 160 meters will be used. Check out

CY0, SABLE ISLAND. It has been
reported that Wayne, VE1CBK, will be active from Sable Island
signing CY0SAB. He will be on Sable from January 27th until
January 31st. Wayne will be on the island for commercial reasons,
and HAM radio activity will be during off hours. He expects be
active early morning and afternoon/evening hours (1200z and after
2000z). He has no specific frequencies other than the
"usual" DX locations. Wayne plans to concentrate on the
lower bands (160, 80, 40 and 20.) Otherwise, if propagation
permits, 17 through 10 meters is possible. He is currently
assembling RTTY equipment, and it is likely he will be active on
that mode. Additionally, he will try to be active for as many
RS-12 satellite passes as possible. QSLs go to Wayne E King, 63

DX FROM THE NETHERLAND.....
During PACC Contest activity, look for stations with special
prefixes PA6V in province ZH (QSL via PI4KGL) and PA6W in
province GD (QSL via PA0JR). Their activity will be on all bands
(except WARC) during the PACC Contest weekend February 8-9th.....
Worked All Provinces (WAP) award (format A4, six colors) is
available when all twelve provinces have been worked. If
provinces were worked during the 1997 PACC Contest, please send

GI, RATHLIN ISLAND (Northern Ireland).
The WestNet DX Group will be active this summer from this Irish
Island with has an IOTA of EU-122, The dates of their operation
are June 12th to June 16th. The callsign to be used will be
GI/EI7NET. Operations will be on all HF bands 160-10 meters. It
is also hoped that operation on 6 meters will take place. Modes
of operations will be CW,SSB and RTTY. QSLs will be via EI6FR.
NOTE: All direct cards for EJ7NET EU007 1996 have been answered.
QSLs for all stations appearing in the EJ7NET log have been
prepared and will be answered via the bureau this month.
FRC 70th ANNIVERSAY AWARD. If
you were fortunate to work any of the members of the Frankford
Radio Club during the contest over the past weekend, you may
qualify for a special full color certificate for their 70th
anniversary celebration. Please check out the full story and get

US/NA Stations need 70 QSO's with FRC stations DX stations
need 35 QSO's with FRC stations
Submit log info ONLY to K2FL (CBA) for automatic issuance of
certificate. QSOs with their DXpeditions also count for the
award. The following are some of the DXpeditions which took place
1997: V26B, PJ9E, V47KP, VP5T, VB9DH, VP9DX, P40W and WP2Z (CQWW

KG4, GUANTANAMO BAY. Larry,
KG4ML, is expecting to be on-base February 11-27th, and hopes the
work sked will allow operation in the ARRL DX CW Contest February
15-16th. Other bands/modes will be operated as work allows, but
expect to see him on the WARC bands. To date, KG4ML has worked
about 6500 QSOs in 5 trips to KG4 land.
OH0, ALAND ISLAND. From January
31st through February 2nd, OH1NX, OH1NYP, OH1TX and OH2BH
(returning from his XX9TR operation this past weekend) will
activate OH0NYP on 160 meters. The variety of other callsigns may
be heard on the higher bands. The 160 meters station will
transmit 1825 kHz, especially focusing on the JA and U.S.
openings. Also, members of the Contest Club Finland will be
working CQ 160 Meter Contest as OH0AM from Aland Islands. They
are especially looking for the USA and Japan with their new
antenna. Operators are OH1EH, OH1MDR, OH6EI and OH6YF. Outside
the contest, Harry, OH6YF, will be looking for the WARC band QSOs
as OH0MYF.
TN, CONGO. Baldur, DJ6SI, is now
active as TN6X, and will be active until February 4th. He will be
active on all bands 160-10 meters SSB and CW. QSL to his home
call DJ6SI.
UE0LWA, SPECIAL EVENT STATION (FAR EAST
OF RUSSIA). Station UE0LWA is now active on the air to
celeberate the 70th anniversary of the Russian supply to defence
Sport-Technical Organization - <<rosto>>. Operations
will last until February 3rd. The station is located in the port
city of Vladivostok (CQ zone 19). Operations will be on CW/SSB
with activity on 160-20 meters and VHF. QSL via RZ0LWA or bureau.
USI ALERT (United States Island Award).
Dennis, N9WDQ, plans to activate Chouteau and Gabaret Islands
(new) and maybe Walkers Island on January 28th, starting around
1600/1700z. Check on 14.260 + - QRM. Note: The islands are listed
in the directory as IL-003 and 002 but have not been activated to
date. When activated, the numbers will contain the "R"
designator. QSL direct w/SASE or Dennis can be eQSL'd (see eQSL
list at the USI website)!
V31, BELIZE. There will once
again be a SMC expedition to Belize for the ARRL DX CW contest.
John/WC0W/V31TP, Alan/NS0B/V31EV and possibly Bob/WG9L/V31RC will
be going to Belize for a week, which includes the ARRL DX CW
Contest. They will try to be on the air by mid-late afternoon
local time on February 12th, and be active until February 18th.
They will be a Multi/Single entry in the contest and will do as
much operating as time permits, both CW and SSB, but mainly CW,
before and after the contest. Look for activity as V31TP in the
contest and with any/all of the individual call signs outside the
contest. Activity will be limited to 160/80/40/20/15/10 with NO
WARC band operation likely. QSL via the appropriate call as
indicated above.
VP5, TURKS AND CAICOS. Steve,
N9CK, will be active from February 4-11th, as VP5/N9CK. Activity
will be mainly CW and RTTY. He will active during the WPX RTTY
contest using the callsign VP5CK. QSL to N9CK (ex N9CKC) good in
any callbook or via bureau.
VK0IR HEARD ISLAND UPDATE. As of
January 25th (0903z), statistics show the following: Total QSOs:
71,184 QSOs with 24,871 different stations.
LATE MINUTE UPDATE! VK0IR breaks a record! As
of Saturday afternoon, VK0IR broke 4J1FS's QSO count of 74,495
with a current total of over 80,000 QSOs.
ZY0 ST. PETER & PAUL ROCKS (UPDATE).
Karl/PS7MM and Tino/PT7AA, plan on leaving Brazil via a fishing
boat on February 1st for a 4 and 1/2 day voyage to the Rocks.
They should be active around February 5th. Activity will be on
all the usual DX frequencies. Karl will attempt to knock down the
8th most needed country on the RTTY list. A special thanks goes
to Randy Hollier, WX5L, for his efforts in supplying the team
with a RTTY station to use. Karl will also use a propagation
program to help utilize the existing conditions. Karl will
operate as ZY0SK on SSB/RTTY and Tino will operate as ZY0SG on
CW. QSL to each op's CBA address.
