during darkness. Operations will be around 025 kHz on all bands.
QSL INFO AND NEWS...
Buzz, N5FTR, reports that Rusty, KG4AU, has decided he
wants to handle his own cards. So, all requests should
now be sent to Rusty via KG4AN (not N5FTR), the Gitmo
Club Station (Guantanamo Bay). Buzz states he is still
receiving quite a few requests for cards, but he no
longer has the logs and has sent Rusty all the blank
cards. He knows this is expensive and an inconvienent for
those who have seny for the card, but all he can do is
return their cards with the information for the new
routing....
Buzz, N5FTR, states he will now send cards to the
outgoing QSL Bureau only one time a year for stations he
is manager for. He has recently sent off a 16 pound box
of cards in January, and will not send another until
January of 1998. Those seeking a card through the bureau
for one of the stations that he manages will have to wait
a while longer, but it will be sent. Of course, those
requesting a card and sending a SAE with the appropriate
postage (or provisions for same) will receive their card
as quickly as they can be confirmed. Buzz handles cards
for the following active stations: ZD7JP, OA4DTW
(ex-9M8BT and P29BT), V31ML, A41KJ, and V31SD. He also
has the logs for the following stations that are now QRT
or not currently active: 9M8BT, 9M8FH, 9M8LL, 9M8YL,
Z21BA, ZD8KFC, PJ0/KB5DZP, V31BR, V47LDX, and J87CQ.
Bob, W7TSQ, reports that Gary, N7QXQ/HR6, (on IOTA
NA-057) has decided that Bob will take on the new
responsibility for his QSLs. PLEASE NOTE that Gary is
just about out of cards in HR6, so more will be ordered
when the next mailboat leaves for the states (in about a
week). Most of those cards will be shipped to Bob and a
few to Gary. Gary will send Bob all the logs through
March 31, 1997, which Bob should have in his hands about
mid April. If you have sent cards already to Gary's Tampa
address, please just wait!! If you have sent cards to
NA7X (now a silent key), please send them again to Bob.
For a direct response - a SASE or SAE plus postage is
required. Cards received without, will be answered but
via bureau!!! Bob states that Gary has been waiting for
an HR6 callsign, but that seems like it may never come
about.
RUSSIAN DX NEWS..... RA3SL
reports that a Russian expedition to Waganiha Island (RR-22-01)
will be active during the second half of February. The operators
will be Nick/RA1QQ, Alex/RA1QY and Albert/RA1QHJ, and they hope
to use the special callsign UE1QQQ. QSL via RA1QQ (Nick A.
Smerdov): P.O.Box 24, Cherepovets, 162627, Russia. This island
will be good for RRC-Award (Russian Robinzon Club)..... Also,
Nick, RA1QQ, reports that the logs for 4K2QQ from AS-022,
(1989-1991) will be closed at the end this year. If you do not
have the QSL-card, please QSL again via RA1QQ.
USI ALERT (New WA island). Jim,
W9HAO, has a sked with Phil, KJ7NS, on Maury Island, WA, on
Tuesday, February 11th at 1700Z. When qualified, Maury Island
will be WA-016S. Please allow Jim to make his sked on 14260 kHz
before calling Phil.
V2, ANTIGUA (UPDATE). Last week
we mentioned that Sean, KX9X, and Matt, NM9H, would be active
from February 12-19th, CW/SSB and RS-12. But due to popular
request, the team WILL also be active on RTTY from the Caribbean
super-station V26B. QSL information, assuming they receive the
callsigns they apply for, are as follows: V26CW via NM9H - Matt
Kolb, 1301 S. Second St., Gillespie, IL 62033 USA V26NA via KX9X
- Sean Kutzko, 2614 Greenleaf Blvd., Elkhart, IN 46514 USA
V5, NAMIBIA. Charlie, W0YG (ex
KY0A), left last Wednesday and should be once again active from
here by the time you read this. He tells OPDX that the operation
will start Monday evening (V5 local time), February 10th, on the
top band. Charlie and others will be active as V51Z through
February 17th. Operations will be on all bands, mostly CW, but
with some RTTY on 20M only. They will concentrate on the low
bands and the WARC bands. They will also be active in the ARRL DX
Contest. QSLs for V51Z are via ZS6EZ.
V6, MICRONESIA. Sam, V63KU, is
very active on 20 meters SSB and can usually be found active for
a few hours between 14175 and 14200 kHz starting around 2100z.
QSL via JA6NL at: PO Box 1679, Truk Lagun, Micronesia.
ZB2, GIBRALTAR. Andy, G4ZVJ,
plans to sign ZB2/G4ZVJ from March 12-18th. Activity will be
mostly CW on all HF bands. Suggested frequencies are: 1827, 3503,
7003, 10103, 14027, 18077, 24897, and 28027 kHz +/-. If there is
a demand, Andy states that he will be active on RTTY. The ARRL DX
CW contest falls during his stay. However, Andy states, "My
QTH is on the "WRONG" side of the ROCK for North
America ;)." QSL via G4ZVJ (Direct or via Bureau): Andy
Chadwick, 5 Thorpe Chase, Ripon, North Yorkshire, HG4 1UA, U.K.
ZC6, PALESTINE (Gaza and West Bank).
Ray, 9M2NOM/G3NOM, informs OPDX that there is the possibility of
an operation from the Gaza Strip (Palestine) from February
12-14th, using the call sign ZC6MPT. This will be followed by a
visit to the West Bank February 14-16th, possibly using the
operator's own callsign/ZC6 for callsigns. A small group of
Japanese operators who are members of the recently formed IARV
(International Amateur Radio Volunteers) will be setting off for
Palestine on 11th February 1997. Their mission will primarily be
Phase 2 of a humanitarian aid project which started last June in
the Gaza Strip. They will be installing and commissioning VHF/UHF
transceivers at the hospitals and in ambulances on the West Bank.
Also, they will be holding discussions with officials about
future amateur radio volunteer work. Due to the above
commitments, there is only a 50/50 chance of operation at this
time. The operators will be Yoshi JA1UT, Jiro JA3UB, and Teru
JA3TXZ. They hope to assist the Palestine National operators to
activate ZC6MPT from the HQ of the Ministry of Posts and
Telecommunications in Gaza City. Operations are likely to be
confined to 14 MHz SSB around 14190 kHz. Permission to operate
from the West Bank is more difficult and is less likely. However,
if permission is granted, it is likely that callsign/ZC6 calls
will be used. QSLs will be handled by JA1UT. Ray, 9M2NOM/G3NOM,
states "DXers are reminded that the European World Wide
Award (Award Manager F6FQK Coucil of Europe)) does recognize
Palestine as a separate country already, although DXCC
accreditation is still not forthcoming."
