ZL1ANJ for the following DX information.
3A, MONACO. The "DX News
Sheet" reports that Manfred, DJ7RJ, will be active March
3-13th, as 3A/DJ7RJ while on holiday. Activity will on CW/SSB and
40-10 meters, with a possibility of operations on 160 and 80
meters if he finds the space to erect antennas. QSL to home call.
8B (or will it be YE8), TUKANG BESI
ISLAND (New IOTA). Reportedly, everything is a go.
Activity will begin March 7th at 0000z and will end March 9th
2400z. Tjork, YB0RX, and others have added another operator to
the team (a CW operator). Callsign is still not yet known at this
time, 8B8WI is the requested one, but Tjok stated some difficulty
with the authority for using a special prefix, so they may have
to settle with YE8 prefix. The team hopes that an IOTA number
will be issued on the first day. Operations will be from Wanci
Village on the Island of Wangi-wangi in the Tukang Besi Islands
Group, with activity on 80-10 meters (including the WARC Bands)
CW/SSB. QSL is via YC8KAR.
9K/NLD, KUWAIT NATIONAL AND LIBERATION
DAY AWARD. On February 25th and 26th (every year) the
state of Kuwait celebrates its National and Liberation Day. To
mark this auspicious event, Kuwait Amateur Radio Society is
delighted to announce an international award for Kuwait National
and Liberation Day award. Two stations will be active during
these days signing callsign/NLD (Look for club station
9K2RA/LND). The contest is open to both licensed radio amateurs
and SWLs. ADDED NOTE: Details of this event will be sent to all
OPDX InterNet Subscribers as an additional bulletin.
BV, TAIWAN (160 METERS). Chung,
BV4ME, and Leo, BV7FC, have been reportedly active on the lower
bands including 160 meters. No times were provide for Leo on 160,
but Chung has been here often on 1828 kHz around 2000-2230z. QSL
both direct to their CBA.
BV9, PRATAS ISLAND. Joe Fitter,
BV/N0IAT in Taipei, Taiwan R.O.C., reported the following this
past week: "Had a nice discussion with several of my
Taiwanese/Chinese hams during the Chinese Lunar New Years
holiday. One of the topics of discussion was the upcoming
DXpedition to Pratas Island, one of the newest of DXCC countries.
It is with a sad note that I must report that the application to
revisit Pratas Island was rejected. Citing military preparedness,
the officials rejected the application for a return to the island
for DX operations. So, at this time, there is no plan for a
return to Pratas Island during the first half of 1997. For those
not aware, Pratas is one of the Republic of China's strongholds
and it is primarily an island of military installations, and not
for civilian use. It was with great privelege that the BV9P
operation(s) were able to occur on Pratas. It is with hope that a
future operation to Pratas will be realized, either in the second
half of 1997 or early 1998......" Regards, Joe Fitter,
BV/N0IAT
D4, CAPE VERDE. Didier,
6W/F5OGL, and Christian, 6W1QV, will try to be active from here
Februay 26th to March 4th.

CQWW DX 160 SSB Contest with the callsign EA8ZS. Before and after
the contest, they will be using EA8/own call. If someone needs
EA8 on any band/mode, they will accept skeds during the evening
hours. Send request to: agaliana@alc.es
EK, ARMENIA. EK6GC is currently
active on 160 meter SSB (no times of activity were given). He
will also be active in the CQWW 160M SSB Contest. QSL to P.O. Box
25, Charentsavan, 378562 Armenia. Internet E-mail address: ampr@arminco.com
HP, PANAMA. As we reported
several bulletins back Gerard, F2JD, would soon be active from
here and now Gerard has been issued a callsign and is now active
as HP1XBI. He will be active from 40-15 meters (including the
WARC bands). Gerard will try to activate some of the Panamnian
coastal islands, as usual. QSL via F6AJA.

"OK" via bureau or direct to: Mathieu Roche, F5SHQ, 4
cours de la liberation, 33000 Bordeaux, France.
QSL NEWS AND INFO...
Felix, DL8OBC, states he has been receiving quite a few
QSL requests for stations that he is not the QSL manager
for, particularly for Bosnian stations. Felix says,
"When Bosnian stations were first issued the T9
prefix in 1993, I agreed to handle QSL requests for T93M,
T94IW, T94ON, and T97M. In the meantime, I have handled
well over 10,000 QSL requests for these stations, both
direct and via the bureau. Much of the work was done by
Mario DL1FDV, Mike DL4FMA, and Danny DL5FDA. I'd like to
thank them very much for their great help and support! In
the meantime, the situation in Bosnia has improved, and
the country can be reliably reached via the postal
service. A Bosnian QSL bureau is operational and is said
to be working well. For this reason, I do not handle QSL
requests for any Bosnian stations any longer. Please do
not send me any cards for T9 stations, as I will not be
able to answer those QSLs. Here are the currently valid
QSL routes for some of the more active Sarajevo stations,
to the best of my knowledge:
T93M - Daniel Horvat, Grbavicka 53-6, 71000
Sarajevo, Bosnia-Herzegovina or via K2PF: Ralph G
Fariello, 23 Old Village Road, Hillsborough, NJ
08876, USA
T9DX - Sarajevo Contest Group, P.O. Box 61, 71000
Sarajevo, Bosnia-Herzegovina
T94IW is no longer active. T94ON upgraded his
license class and is now T99S. T97M has not
currently appointed a QSL manager, so cards
should probably be sent via the Bosnian QSL
bureau."
Felix mentions he will still answer QSLs for all of
his own stations which he is QSL Manager of via the QSL
bureau or direct to: Felix J. Riess, DL8OBC, P.O. Box
1253, D-30984 Gehrden, Germany.......
Those who worked EI7M, which took part in the ARRL CW
contest this past weekend, should have their QSL Cards
sent to: Denis O' Flynn, EI6HB, Ladysbridge P.O.,
Ladysbridge, Castlemartyr, Co. Cork., Ireland.
5X1XX, 5X1HR, 7Q7JH, and KF7E/ V5/A2/Z2 QSLs. Jim, KF7E,
states he would like to close out the logs for these
stations, and wishes to make a final call for those still
needing the QSLs. There was one interruption in the
QSLing for direct cards to K7UP and KF7E, and one lost or
misplaced batch of bureau cards for late 1995/early 1996.
All errors, ommissions, and special requests should have
been taken care of. The last big batch of bureau cards
went out at the end of 1996, and Jim has one small batch
of direct QSLs to mail out; these cards will go out by
the end of February. Please give the bureaus a chance;
they are very busy. Jim has received in previous bureau
deliveries multiple QSL requests from the same stations,
sometimes 3 for the same QSO. If you sent Jim a direct
request and have not received a reply by the end of
March, please send an E-mail message to him
(jhenders@tdrss.wsc.nasa.gov) or send another request
mentioning this communication, and he will double check
for you. Otherwise, he intends to pack up the piles of
QSLs and logs and store them by April 15, 1997.
USI ALERT. Dave, K1HT, will be
active from Cumberland Island GA-002S on 14260 kHz from February
17-21st. QSL direct to K8JLF or bureau via K1HT.
V31, BELIZE. Members of the Cuba
Libre Contest Club, John/W2NA, Vic/KI6IM and Bill/WA9L will be
active as V31DX during the ARRL DX Phone Contest. Activity will
be on 160-10 meters. QSL via AA6BB.
V5/ZS6YG OPERATION. Operators
from Colorado -- KV0Q, W0YG. WB0HBS and W8UVZ should be QRT by
the time you read this. As of Thursday last week, the team passed
out about 700 QSOs on 160 meters. The team has reported that
contacts were difficult due to area storms which caused static
and high winds. They were using an inverted vee on 160m with apex
at 260 feet using 60 ft mast on top of 200 ft high lighthouse on
the Atlantic coast.
VP5, TURKS & CAICOS ISLANDS.
If you do not have a chance to work Joe, K8JP, this past weekend
during the ARRL DX CW Contest as VP5JP, you will have a second
chance this coming weekend during the CQWW 160M SSB Contest
(February 21-23rd).
WHAT HAPPENED ON KERGUELEN? OPDX
InterNet Subscribers will receive an additional bulletin
containing the details (by Peter, ON6TT), why the VK0IR team did
not operate from here.
WP2, VIRGIN ISLANDS (U.S.). Operators
KE2VB, K2ZJ and K2ZL will be active as WP2Z during the ARRL DX
Phone Contest (March 1-2nd). The WP2Z will be a Multi 2 entry for
the contest.
XE, MEXICO. Ramon, XE1KK,
informs OPDX that once again the Radio Club Satelite, XE1RCS,
will be active in the CQWW 160M SSB Contest as a Multi-Op/Single
Transmiter entry. The group has installed a brand new 1/4 wave
vertical, two dipoles, and 6 beverages which includes running
full power. A lot of planning and teamwork has been made for this
contest. They hope to do better than last year placing 6th in the
world. For more information contact Ramon at
"xe1kk@amsat.org" or visit their WEB site: http://www.xe1rcs.org.mx/
XT, BURKINA FASO. Ray, W4BYG,
states he will be traveling to the French part of western Africa,
from February 18-25th, and may possibly extend his stay another
two weeks. He will signing XT2AR and plans to be on or about
14195 or 14245 kHz after 2100z, each evening. He will be running
a FT-757 to a ground plane. He may also try 40 meters if
conditions are not good. QSL via W4BYG.
YV0, AVES ISLAND. "Rumors
of a DXpedition to Aves Island this summer are not true",
states Reinaldo, YV5AMH, President of the Radio Club Venezolano
and Vice-President of the Venezuela DX Club, "no plans for
Aves Island this year. The closest date is March or April
1999."
ZL, NEW ZEALAND. Look for
operators Tapani, OH5BM, and Martin, ZL1ANJ, to be active as
ZL1ANJ as a MultiOp-Single Transmitter enrty in the ARRL DX Phone
Contest. Operations are planned to be on 80-10 meters.
ZK1, SOUTH COOK. The "DX
News Letter" reports that VE6JO is expected to be active
from February 22nd until March 10th. They state he holds a valid
licence, but he has to borrow equipment on the island.
ZL7, CHATHAM ISLAND. The DXNL
also reports Lothar, DJ4ZB, has been active since February 4th as
ZL7ZB. He will stay there until March 13th (?). Lothar works in
phone only from 80-6 meters. QSL via homecall.
ZY0SG/ZY0SK OPERATION. The St.
Peter and St. Paul Rocks DXpedition is now QRT! Last QSO was
logged at 1015z. Despite the great difficulties, Tino and Karl
made almost 10.000 QSOs.
