5H, ZANZIBAR ISLAND (Tanzania).
Phil, G3SWH, will be active on CW only all bands from 80-10
meters, conditions permitting. From September 16-22nd, he will be
active from mainland Tanzania as 5H3/G3SWH and from September
22-29th, he will be on Zanzibar Island (IOTA AF-032) as
5H1/G3SWH. Phil will be using one of the IOTA Committee's Yaesu
FT-900AT transceivers with 100 watts to wire antennas. This is a
holiday operation, and activity will probably be restricted to 3
or 4 hours per day. There will be a special printed QSL made
available, either from his home address: Phil Whitchurch, 21
Dickensons Grove, Congresbury, Bristol, BS19 5HQ, United Kingdom,
with SAE and adequate return postage or via the RSGB bureau.
5V, TOGO. The Voo-Doo Contest
Group has announced they will be active as 5V7A in the upcoming
1997 CQ World-Wide DX CW Contest on November 29-30th. They will
enter the Multi/Multi category with eleven team members, eight
one-kilowatt stations (all TS930 and Alpha amplifiers), 18
antennas (including nine Force 12 and Cushcraft yagis; and also
balloons/kites for a 160 meters 132 foot vertical). This is an
expanded operation from their 1996 project which secured a
first-place contest finish. A sea container is en route from UK
with 100 ft. of tower, 2500 ft. of hard-line and 2000 ft. of
rotor cable. Full details of this Contest/DXpedition are
available on their Web page (thanks to Warren, K7WX) at the URL: http://www.getnet.com/~k7wx/5v7a.html.
The WEB site contains many photos, maps, QSL cards and much more.
Please drop by and also check the "Flash" section from
time to time for latest news. Team members will activate their
personal call-signs outside of the contest, including WARC bands:
G3SXW/5V7A, G3ZEM/5V7ZM, G4FAM/5V7FA, GM3YTS/5V7RF, K5VT/5V7VT,
K7GE/5V7JL, K7PN/5V7PN, KC7V/5V7MF, N7BG/5V7BG, N7MB/5V7MB and
W6RGG/5V7BV. QSL via home-call except 5V7A which goes to GM4AGL.
They will also welcome E-mail requests for bureau replies for
5V7A cards. Send request to: g3sxw@compuserve.com
9M0, LAYANG LAYANG ISLAND (Spratly
Islands). If you missed the N2OO's operation from here
last week, you will have a second chance this week. Pekka, OH2YY,
currently based in Beijing, will be making another short
operating stint from the Layang Layang Resort. Currently his call
sign is still pending, but it will be issued upon his arrival in
Kota Kinabalu, East Malaysia, his port of departure to this
DXpedition. Pekka's expected arrival is during the morning of
August 19th, local time, and his departure will be on the morning
of August 22nd. He plans to be active almost immediately
following his arrival. The equipment is a Yaesu FT-840
transceiver and Cuschraft R5 and 40M dipole antennas. If
arrangements can be completed, the beam antenna used by N2OO will
be left behind for this operation. The "regular" bands
7, 14 and 21 MHz will be employed, almost exclusively on SSB.
Watch 7045, 14195 and 21295 kHz. Pekka is no stranger to DX in
his native Finland and has recently joined the spirit of the
South China Sea DX Team in preparation for exploits to several
rare countries in the region. Pekka is extremely thankful to
Alfons, 9M6MU, and Doris, 9M6DU, who have provided extremely
valauble assistance in making this operation possible. QSLs for
his Spratly operation will be handled by Martti Laine, OH2BH,
Nuottaniementie 3D20, 02230 Espoo, Finland.
AP2AP IS A PIRATE! The following
was sent to OPDX on behalf of PARS by Tariq, AP2TJ: "The
Pakistan Amateur Radio Society (PARS) advises all radio amateurs
that the call "AP2AP" being used by JA8WPP and/or
JA1EZM is a fake. No such call has been issued by the licensing
authorities to anyone and these "Amateurs" have no
permission to operate in AP temporary or otherwise. There has
been no change in local licensing regulations. PARS requests all
amateurs to discourage this type of piracy by not responding to
CQs or QSO requests from this fake call. Such activity can only
be detrimental to the genuine hams in AP. The operator should
also be advised that it is known that he is a pirate. ARRL and
JARL are also being informed by copy of this notification so that
QSL cards from this station are not accepted for any awards. This
is in addition to any legal or punitive action the local
authorities may take against the operator/s for illegal operation
of a transmitting station under the relevant laws."
AP50, PAKISTAN. Tariq, AP2TJ,
reports to OPDX that the digital station AP50NK will be active in
Amtor/Pactor/Gtor (auto-reply) on mark frequencies 14065 kHz
(0300-1700z) and 7038 (1700-0300z). Contacts with AP50NK will
qualify as a QSO for the AP50 Golden Jubilee award.
BU, TAIWAN. Prefix Hunters start
looking for this new prefix "BU". Look for BU0DX on the
ham bands, especially 20 meters CW. QSL to BV200: c/o CTARL, PO
Box 73, Taipei, Taiwan, Republic of China.
ER, MOLDOVA. Chris, K4PC, will
be leaving with a team of workers on September 27th for a two
week missions trip to work in some children's orphanages in
Moldova. They will be installing hot water heaters,
weatherstripping windows and installing FM radio receivers for
the children to listen to broadcasts. If any spare time becomes
available, Chris is hoping to operate RTTY, CW and SSB on 40, 80
and 160 meters. He has been in contact with Sergey, ER1AN, by
E-mail and fax about obtaining a license, and he is almost sure
Chris will be issued a license. All the paperwork has been faxed
to him and forwarded to the PTT for approval. Sergey and Chris
hope to hear about the results within a few weeks. He will not be
taking any equipment, so he will have to try and operate from a
home or club station. More updates and details are forthcoming.
EX0, KYRGYZSTAN. Valery, EX0V
(ex-UM8NU), reports he is now active on RTTY (thanks to Juanjo,
EA3CB, for a gift computer). Look for him on 14080 kHz +/- QRM
around 0100-0300 and 1200-1800z. He also plans to be active on
the other bands (80-40-30 meters). If any person wants to make a
schedule with him, send E-mail to: EX0V@amsat.org. QSL EX0V (and
UM8NU, UM8NAP, UM93NU, UM1N) to N6FF (ex KL7H/W6).
HB0, LIECHTENSTEIN. Henry/SP2FOV
and Kazik/DL2SBY will by active from here as HB0/SP2FOV and
HB0/DL2SBY, from August 20-27th. They plan to be active on 80-10
meters on CW, SSB and RTTY. QSL via home call.
HELP WANTED (one spot filled). Rick,
VK4LW, from ODXG reports they have filled one of the two

operator added is Bill Snider, K6KM. Bill, within the past year,
has operated as TI2/K6KM, TI4/K6KM, M/K6KM, OH2/K6KM and
OH0/K6KM. He has also operated from EP, DL, KH5, KH2 and GU.
Bill's perfered mode is CW, but he does operate the SSB contests.
ODXG still needs another operator ASAP!!!!! They have had a few
interested parties but none confirmed as of yet. The DXpediton
has a mixture of OM's or YL's. If interested, you will need to be
in Cairns ready to go at the boat by 1230z, September 9th. You
will return approx. 24th September. Please contact Rick if you
are interested at: zerk@keylink.com.au.

Uruguay Dx Group that activated CX0XY, P40AN/CR and last year

via CX3CE, Box 244, Montevideo 11000, Uruguay-South America.
HZ, SAUDI ARABIA. Vic, N7CVJ, at
HZ1AB says the gang there is making big plans to be in the 1997

Tex, 9M2TO, will be active from Pulau Perhentain (IOTA
AS-073) as 9M2TO/P from August 30th to September 1st. Tex

meters. QSL via JA0DMV direct or via JARL bureau.
A group of JA operations will activate OKI Archipelago

IRCS (Special Request). Alan,
VK4AAR, sent your editor the following important message:
"Hello Tedd... I must plead with DXers to make sure that
their post office puts an official imprint on the left hand side
of IRCs when they purchase them. If they use 2nd hand IRCs that
don't have this stamp, I suggest they try to "unload"
it/them at their local post office and thereby remove them from
the system. In any case, don't send them to me if you need me to
supply a QSL card. My post office (the only one for 80 Kms!) has
suddenly woken up that I have been tendering the occasional
invalid IRC for stamps and now is refusing them. I have paid the
postage for a few people but that will now cease... I can't
afford it on my pension. PLEASE MAKE SURE THAT THE IRC(s) ARE
CORRECTLY VALIDATED AT YOUR POST OFFICE WHEN YOU PURCHASE IT
(THEM). I WILL NOT (N-O-T) BE ABLE TO REPLY TO YOUR REQUEST IF
THE IRC(s) ARE INVALID. I would appreciate it if you could
publish this on behalf of QSL managers everywhere. Thanks.......
73 de Alan, VK4AAR"
J3, GRENADA. Harry, W8KKF, will
be active in the 1997 CQ WW SSB Contest as J37K. He is also
looking for more operators to join him. You can contact Harry via
his E-mail address at hflasher@dayton.net
or via the telephone at 937-434-9616. QSL via home call.
JW, SVALBARD. Kjell, SM7NAS,
informs OPDX that from August 29th to September 1st he will sign
JW/SM7NAS. He will be operating from the QTH of JW5E (the local
ham club in Longyearbyen, Svalbard). He states the antennas that
are available there are a 5 element beam up 100 ft for 10/15/20
meters and a full size delta loop for 40 meters. If possible, he
will operate on the WARC bands and the low bands as well. The low
bands will be difficult due to the sunlight that is almost round
the clock. All QSLs go to SM7NAS via bureau or direct: Kjell
Adolfsson, Dalbovagen 16B, S-59096 Overum, Sweden.
KH0, MARIANA ISLANDS. Skip,
JE2HCJ, is planning to go to Saipan in the Northern Mariana
Islands from August 22-25th. He plans on using the callsign
N2PQE/KH0. Activity will be CW/SSB/RTTY on 40-10 meters. QSL via

Besar Island (AS-097, which is part of the Johor
West/Melaka State Group located in the Malacca Straits
off the West Coast of Peninsular Malaysia) as 9M2OM/P,

REGARDING 7Q7EH QSLS (Update by Chris, AA9HD).
"There has been some confusion regarding my status
with 7Q7EH, and I would like to clear it up. I am a
college student, and am moving to a new apartment. Due to
the fact that I was away at school, the 9th area sorter
could not contact me regarding the 7Q7EH QSLs he was
holding for me. (Any messages regarding the matter were
never forwarded the school QTH by the folks at home.) As
soon as he was able to contact me, I picked up the QSLs
waiting and will ship them to 7Q7EH shortly. Also, any
QSLs sent to the W1 bureau for 7Q7EH via W1EH (his home
call) are being forwarded to me and will be shipped to
7Q7EH. I would like to emphasize that ALL CARDS SENT VIA
BURO will be sent to me and forwarded to 7Q7EH. Please
keep this in mind when QSLing 7Q7EH:
W1EH is an incorrect QSL route. QSL 7Q7EH via
AA9HD.
My home QTH will remain the same (I am moving to
another apartment at school.) The address is:
Chris Cieslak AA9HD, 810 N 16th Ave., Melrose
Park, IL 60160-3829
All direct QSLs sent to the above address have
been shipped to 7Q7EH on a regular basis.
I have worked out a schedule with my bureau
sorter so that he has no problems in contacting
me. Cards sent via bureau will be picked up on a
regular basis.
I hope that this clears up any confusion. If you have
any more questions regarding the matter, please feel free
to contact me at: ccieslak@uiuc.edu.
I apologize for any delays this mixup may have caused. I
intend to continue serving the DX community to the best
of my abilities....." 73 and Best DX, Chris Cieslak,
AA9HD
UE1QQQ/1 "Polar-97 DX-Pedition" QSLS. Albert,
RA1QHJ, states the QSL cards are currently being printed.
Albert: "Please don't worry about them. All stations
which are "in the log" will receive QSL cards
from us." QSLs are "OK" by direct mail,
but remember that 1 IRC is insufficient for reply. Please
send 2 IRCs or 1 Green stamp for direct reply (usually
letters will cost 3500 Russian rub., but 1 IRC = only
3000 rub.). To avoid delays, QSL both AH7X and AH7X/AH0
via JP1NWZ.
TT8, CHAD. Burns, W4FOA,
talked\worked Jim, TT8/WA4KKY, who is in Chad
repairing/installing some sort of communications system. He
passed along the following info: He and John (WB4MBU) will be
alternating in/out of TT8 for what he said was more or less
permanently. Jim indicated he (and John) will be active around
18150 kHz, although he was worked today on 14225 kHz. Also, he
stated he is hearing quite well on 75 meters and will be on 3928
around 1100-1230z which he indicated was his "gray
line" (some confusion on this point). He also stated he had
just moved, so his callbook address is not correct and was
telling all to QSL via the WA4 bureau. Jim also mentioned that
plans are for John to bring some digital stuff with him when he
arrives around 6-7th of September. He did not further identify
what digital equipment he would be bringing.
VR6, PITCAIRN ISLAND. The
59(9) DXReport states Tom, VR6TC, has been active on 14188
kHz at 0130z and will give out CW QSOs as well. QSL via WD6GUD.
Tom is the real OT of Pitcairn Island!
