Thanks to the Northern Ohio Amateur Radio
Society, Northern Ohio DX Association, Ohio/Penn PacketCluster
Network, KH2D, KF2TI, WB2RAJ/WB2YQH & The 59(9) DXReport,
N5XG, K8RF, K8XP, AP2TJ, BD1QL, DJ5AV & DX News Letter,
DL8OBC, G4BUE & DX News Sheet, ON6TT/5X1T, OX3FV, OZ8AE, and
VK4AAR for the following DX information.
5A, LIBYA. Felix, DL8OBC,
reports that the status of the Rhein Ruhr DX Association's
upcoming operation from Libya is going to take place as planned.
Thanks to the support of the Libyan ASSAKER Club. The team will
leave Germany on November 21st, and expects to be on the air from
Libya a few days later. Their callsign will most probably be
5A7A, although this has not yet been officially confirmed.
Outside of the CQ World Wide DX Contest, they will use two
stations on all HF bands (including WARC and top band) in CW,
SSB, and RTTY. They will join the contest as an Multi/Single
entry to give the 5A and Zone 34 multipliers. A mailing list has
been set up. While they are on the air, you will receive
information about their progress and will also be able to send
them information and comments. To subscribe, send a message to
"majordomo@qth.net"
with only the words "subscribe libya" in the message.
ALso, there will be an online log search available. Check out
their WEB page at: http://www.afthd.tu-darmstadt.de/5a1a/
9Q, EASTERN DEMOCRATIC REPUBLIC OF CONGO
(ex-Zaire). Peter, ON6TT/5X1T, and Mats, SM7PKK/5X1Z,
will be in Kisangani, from November 3-7th. They will have some
ham equipment with them and expect to be active in their evenings
hours. Peters states their antennas are very low performance, but
USA and EU should have no problem working them. Peter will be
taking his SSTV equipment with him and will do some SSTV. Peter
has asked, "Where are all the SSTV DXers?" He has
indicated that he has worked about 50 stations from 5X and most
of them did not really know where 5X was, and clearly were just
as interested in a picture exchange. Peter states, "Where is
the bulk of you SSTV DX chasers? Sometimes I call CQ SSTV for 30
minutes (both voice and video) but no reply. So I asked myself,
should I bother? Motivate me!" Lastly, Peter might be in
Kinshasa the week after the 9Q operation, and he is trying for
the Vatican the week after that.
BZ, CHINA (China on EME!). It
has been reported that the station BY1QH in Beijing has confirmed
three 2-meter QSOs on EME on Saturday, October 18th, and on
Sunday, October 19th. The Tsinghua University Amateur Radio Club
station ran 200 watts into a 4x9-element Yagi antenna. In the
first EME experiment, David, BZ1BM, and Lars, SM0KAK, had hoped
to work VE7BQH and W5UN from BY1QH, but failed. They did work
into Europe and made QSOs with three SM stations. David and Lars
also heard some DL, 9K and JA amateurs on EME, and are planning
their second experiment shortly. If interested in working China
on EME, please send your request via E-mail to David (the student
president of BY1QH) at: bzibm@wg.chnmail.com
C6A, BERRY ISLANDS (BAHAMAS).
Don, N5XG, will activate NA-054 as N5XG/C6A on November 22nd. His
operation will be on 15/20/40 meters CW/SSB on the normal IOTA
frequencies. He suggests to check 7015 kHz at 0300z. Also, check
14260 kHz at 1300 and 1900z and 14040 kHz at 1600 and 2200z. QSL
via N5XG (ex K5BDX).
FO, FRENCH POLYNESIA. "The
59(9) DXReport" states Albert, FO5JR, will take his
Christmas holiday on Rimatara Island (OC-050) and will be active
on 40-10 meters including WARC bands, CW only.
KH2 QSL BUREAU. Jim, KH2D, KH2
QSL Bureau Manager, reports that the KH2 QSL Bureau in Guam is
becoming a repository for a very large number of unclaimed QSL
cards. A large majority of the cards received there are for 2x1
calls. The MAJORITY of extra class call signs issued for Guam are
NOT issued to hams in Guam - they are issued to hams who were at
one time in Guam and no longer are there, hams who came to Guam
and operated for brief periods, and hams who have never been in
Guam but obtained Guam callsigns via the vanity call program.
Judging from the cards received at the Guam bureau, a number of
hams worldwide would like to receive a card from a Guam station,
but sending them via the bureau is not, in most cases, the way to
accomplish obtaining a Guam QSL card. OPDX InterNet Subscribers
will receive an additional bulletin containing Jim's press
release (which is very long) and a list that will assist people
in getting cards from Guam.
KH5K, KINGMAN REEF (Cancelled). Chuck,
N4BQW, had to cancel his KH5/N4BQW operation because the Captain
of the ship he was on stated they had run out of time and needed
to get back to Christmas Island to catch the weekly plane out.
OX, GREENLAND. Kim, OX3FV, has
been very active on 160 meters and the WARC bands on CW. Check 17
meters around 1830z, 20 meters around 1230 and 2215z, 30 meters
around 1200z, 80 meters between 0415 and 0500z and 160 meters
between 0345 and 0430z. Kim reports to OPDX that the correct QSL
info is via bureau or direct to: Kim Andersen, Box 3, zip 3930
Groennedal, Greenland. Meanwhile, Joergen, OZ8AE, reports to OPDX
that he will be active as OX/OZ8AE from Groennedal in the
southwestern part of Greenland from November 3rd to December 1st.
In the CQWW CW Contest, he will be operating as a Multi/Single
with Kim, OX3FV, as OX3FV. Most of his operation will be on CW.
QSL for OX/OZ8AE go to OZ8AE direct or via bureau. The contest
QSOs for OX3FV go to OX3FV.
PAKISTAN PIRATE CONTINUES. Tariq,
AP2TJ, reports, "It has been confirmed by Bob/AP2JZB that he
has never worked CW and has no intentions of the same either.
Stations working 'AP2JZB' on CW are advised not to bother logging
or QSLing, you will only be wasting your time and money as the
QSL address/manager will also in all likelihood be a fake to get
your IRCs or green stamps."
QSL INFO AND NEWS...
CHANGE OF ADDRESS. Ray, G3NOM/9M2OM, states on November
2nd he will be leaving Malaysia and returning to the UK.
He is expecting another overseas assignment, but until
further notice, please forward any mail to: Ray Gerrard,
c/o 37 Godward Road, New Mills, High Peak, SK12 2BU,
England UK
It is very important to note that VI0ANARE and VK0ANARE
have two totally separate QSL routes. These two separate
operations with similar callsigns were celebrating the
50th anniversary of the A.N.A.R.E.. The VI0 callsign was
used from July 1st through October 25th. QSLs for
VI0ANARE go via VK4AAR (direct):
A. Roocroft,
Post Office,
Dalveen QLD 4374
Australia
The VK0 callsign which was used on Macquarie Island was
active between October 26-31st. QSLs for VK0ANARE go via
VK1AUS (the same for VK0TS):
Simon Trotter
POB 2063
Kambah Village ACT 2902
Australia
SPECIAL EVENT SPECIAL. The club
radio station, 4U1ITU, located at the ITU Headquarters in Geneva,
will operate as 4U1WRC until November 21st. The special callsign
is in celebration of the 1997 World Radio Conference (WRC-97).
This station will still count for ITU HQ for DXCC. For more
information check out their WEB page at: http://www.itu.int/radioclub
QSL via bureau or direct.
SV, GREECE. The "DX News
Sheet" reports that Charles, ex-S92SS, and his XYL Leslie,
ex-S92YL, will be active for the next four years as SV0LM and
SV0LN from northern Greece near Thessos Island.
TZ, MALI. If you missed Baldur,
DJ6SI, as TZ6SI (QRT on October 29th), you can still work Larry,
TZ6VV, who will be active for about the next 6 weeks (maybe
longer) before he goes to the U.S. Larry has been heard on 21226
and 21447 kHz between 1600 and 1830z. Also, check 28424 kHz
around 1515z. QSL via AA0GL.
VK9L, LORD HOWE ISALND (Update).
Dan, K8RF, provided OPDX with the following VK9LX Lord Howe
Island DXpedition (November 23rd to December 1st) update.
Everything is reportedly on schedule for Nick, VK2ICV/VK9LX, and
Dan's, K8RF, operation slated for the last week of November. They
will be operating as a Multi/Single in the CQ WW CW Contest and
will run two stations before the contest as much as possible.
Their equipment consists of: TS-930, TS-850, MLA2500, Laptops.
They will make special efforts to be on 160, 80 and 40 meters
before the contest. They have a good Antenna Tuner to help get
them on the WARC bands. Nick has already pre-shipped all of their
antennas to Lord Howe Island. This package includes the
"Battlecreek Special" on loan from W8UVZ and friends, a
Triband Beam (TNX VK4FW), MLA2500 Amp, 20 Meterlong Vertical,
2" Masting for beam, Coax, Antenna Tuner, etc. They have
been provided with a Laptop computer and software courtesy of
DEBCO electronics. Dan would also like to thank VE7BS; NM7M and
XYL; W2UE/7 and others for their financial contributions. ANY
help no matter how modest is appreciated, they heed help NOW
before they leave, if possible. For details, contact Dan at: k8rf@fuse.net.
ZD9, TRISTAN DA CUNHA. Ian,

24955 kHz starting around 1345z. He has also been heard on 10
meters this past week on 28490 kHz around 1445 kHz. Information
from the "DX News Letter" mentions he uses a dipole and
his QSL Manager is Edwin, ZS5BBO. Edwin hopes that they can find
a sponsor for a new beam for Ian. Please be patient for QSL,
Edwin gets the paper logs by ship three to four times a year. QSL
via ZS5BBO: Edwin Musto, Box 211032, Bluff, 4036, South Africa.
