3B7RF DXPEDITION UPDATE AND WRAP-UP
(From 3B7 crew and Gerry/W6TER). "The crew is safe after a
harrowing 75 hours aboard the vessel Umbrina II. After tear down,
they boarded on 18 May, 0800z, for the 30 hour trip to Mauritius.
About two hours out (around the Sudan Bank), two weather systems
influenced the seas to extreme proportions. The vessel captain
wisely decided to anchor in safe harbor, near the most Southern
island in the St. Brandon archipelago. Although, they had
adequate supply of water, the sea provide the food source.
Finally, after the seas subsided, they arrived safely in
Mauritius, about 1300z, May 20th...." Gerry/W6TER The crew
issued the following press release to the media, in Mauritius:
"An international group of amateur radio operators has
successfully completed a "DXPedition" to the St.
Brandon archipelago. The group of "Ham" operators from
Mauritius, Switzerland, USA, Japan and Israel undertook this
challenging adventure to confirm radio propagation predictions
from remote St. Brandon to other parts of the World. Using the
call sign 3B7RF, they contacted over 53,000 hams throughout the
World. No ham operation of proportions has ever taken place from
Mauritius or its outer islands. The DXPedition was conducted with
the approval of the Mauritius Telecom Authority which issued the
radio license. Assistance for the twelve days of radio operation
on St. Brandon was provided by the Raphael Fishing Company, the
crew of the Umbrina II vessel and Mr. Jacky Mandary, 3B8CF."

Boris, T93Y, inform OPDX that they will be active from here
during the period of May 26th to June 3rd. Activity will include

5B4/T97M and 5B4/T93Y will be probably be used outside the
contest. For the contest they will try to get some special
callsign preferably with 7M and 3Y suffix. QSL information for
T97M is via K2PF, and for T93Y it is W6MD (ex N2MAU). A WWW LOG
search will be implemented as soon as they get back home...

activity from N'Gor Island, Chris, 6W1QV, and Didier, 6W1RE, will

FO, AUSTRAL ISLANDS (Possible

IOTA NEWS....
AS-118. Hamad, 9K2HN, is planing to go to Kubar Island on
June 6th, if the weather was "OK" on that day.
There is also a possibility to go the island before that
date (or maybe after). Hamad will be on the island from
1500z until 0100z signing 9K2HN/P. QSLs are
"OK" via bureau or direct.
EU-148. F5BJW, F5XX, F5RDI, F5UOE and F1CLO will use the
callsign TM5B from Fort Brescou, June 12-14th. They will
be active on all bands CW and SSB. QSL via F5XX.
NA-067. Philip, K4EP, will be activating Hatteras Island
in the North Carolina State East Group now through May
29th. He will be using a R7000 and (if it works) an
amplifier he just bought. Philip also mentions, "My
operating schedule depends on the wind (I'm windsurfing),
as this is a vacation." He suggests to QSL via his
old callsign KF4JFG, since that will be an easier one to
find because Philip has only had the new callsign for a
couple of weeks.
OC-154. Dan, VK8AN, has been sent to Troughton Island
again with very little warning. He is there primarily for
work (He is a chopper pilot for an oil company), but he
will be on 14260 and 21260 kHz with some possible 17m and
12m activity if the bands hold up. But 15 meters will be
his main band. Dan will be there until June 3rd using the
callsign VK8AN/6. Please, QSL direct only to Alan, VK4AAR
(new QSL Manager for him). Alan can also confirm earlier
QSOs as he has the access to all logs. Send direct to:
Alan Roocroft, VK4AAR, c/o Post Office, Dalveen QLD 4374,
Australia
JU1, MONGOLIA (UPDATE). Steve,
HA0DU, reports that the JU1HA team has experienced unforeseen and
serious problems which will influence their operations. The
Hungarian Dxpedition team have, however, solved their problems
and changed their callsign to JT1X. So look for this callsign on
the bands! They will operate the four fully equipped stations
which includes two monster log-per beams and several other
antennas. Operations will last until June 2nd. Refer to OPDX.357.
KH2/NH2/WH2, GUAM. Dave, N2NL,
reports that he will be living on Guam for at least the next 2
years and hopes to be very active during this time. Dave will be
active as N2NL/KH2 operating mostly CW on the WARC bands and 20
meters RTTY. During the upcoming weekend, he plans to be active
in the CQWW WPX CW Contest signing either /NH2 or /WH2. PLEASE,

E-mails to him weekly.

headquarters and participate in the CQWW WPX CW Contest (May

Ushuaia, Tierra del Fuego, Argentina.
OH0, ALAND/AHVENANMAA. The world
famous B.I.G. station at Aland/Ahvenanmaa will soon be active
again as OH0W on all bands including a Multi-Single entry in the
CQWW WPX CW Contest. Operators include OH2TA/OH0TA, OH2BCI, OH2KW
and OH5BQ. QSL via OH2IW, CBA.
OOOOPPPSS! (Blame it on Dayton
HamVention fatigue!). We made a little error last week on the WEB
Page address under the heading "COULD YOU HAVE WON A PRIZE
AT THE DAYTON HAMVENTION?" (ed. Sorry John!) The address for
John's (K8YSE) homepage should have read: http://www.en.com/users/k8yse/hamdraw1.html
We had en.con instead of en.com.
