Network, K1RV, WB2RAJ/WB2TQH & The 59(9) DXReport, W0YG,
DK9IP, DL3KUD, EC1BXI, ER1DA, EU7SA, G4BUE & DX News Sheet,
LY2IJ, ON4CEL, RA1QHJ, VE3ZZ and Larry Clark for the following DX
information.
5H, TANZANIA. Ted, W0RA, will
operate from the QTH of Dale, 5H3DD, from July 20th to the 25th.
Check the following suggested times/frequencies: 1330z/14010 kHz
(up 2 - Ted will check for long path to the U.S. west coast. If
there are no openings he will beam short path.); 1700z/21010 (up
2) and 1830z/21295 (up 10); 1930z/28480 (up 10, if the band is
open). For Pactor look before and after the CW times on 14072 and
21072 kHz. Ted will use an FT-747, SB200 amp and a tribander at
50 ft. He is also taking a small antenna tuner and will attempt
some WARC band activity, especially on 17 meters. QSL via W0RA,
direct or bureau. Please no QSLs via 5H3DD or the Tanzanian
bureau.
9V8, SINGAPORE. "The 59(9)
DXReport" states that Singapore stations can use the 9V8
prefix from July 18-November 15.
A SPECIAL CHALLENGE AND REQUEST
(Attention U.S. Prefix Hunters and IOTA Chasers!). OPDX received
a message containing a request for help by a Spanish student and
Novice class operator named Jorge Fernandez, EC1BXI. Jorge
reports he will be going to Arousa Island IOTA EU-080 to operate
during the IOTA Contest using the callsign EC1BXI/P. This will be
a single operator expedition. Jorge's NOVICE class license will
make it a real challenge for him during the upcoming contest. He
states, "For this reasons my station will be a "small
gun" and my operation frequences limited. I need your help,
because with my 50W and my small segment of frequencies
authorized, I am not able to work too many USA stations."
His equipment will be a vertical FRITZEL GPA-30 (10.15.20), a
40/80 dipole CAB-RADAR (Spanish made), an MFJ 949-E tuner, and a
TS-140S. Spanish novices are only able to operate in certain
segments of the 10/15/80 meters bands (if they want to use the
SSB). These are: 10m 28.900 - 29.100 // 15m 21.150 - 21.200 //
80m 3.6 - 3.7 Jorge would like to give the possibility to many
USA hams to work EU-080 (he states that he will probably be the
only station in that reference) and also add the EC prefix for
the WPX chasers. In Europe, EC is a very common prefix, but in
the USA this is not the same because of the different band
segments. For this reason, Jorge will try working SPLIT for
"USA HAMS". Look for him during the contest:
The TX frequencies will be around 21160-21170 kHz RX 100
kHz UP for USA (Approx. 21260 [IOTA freq]) - 21270 kHz.
On the 10 meters it will be more difficult because
Spanish EC segment is 28900-29100 kHz. Jorge will try to
TX in that segment and listen 400 kHz down (Approx.
28500-28700 kHz)
ADDED NOTE: While Jorge is on 21170 Mhz (Split 100Khz up)
+/- QRM, he will try to arrange a quick QSY to the 10m
with any station that asks for it.
The QSL will be 100% via Callbook: Jorge Fernandez, EC1BXI,
P.O. Box 54, 36980 O Grove, (Pontevedra) SPAIN, EUROPE. (He is a
member of RSGB and his QSL Manager is G4RRA. Jorge reports having
trouble with the bureau because he is not a member in Spain
[EA]). By the way, Jorge was active early in the year as EF1IAT
from Toxa Island. QSL via EC1BXI.
DX NET CHANGE. The Butterfly DX
Net that is usually on 14226.5 kHz has moved to 14252 kHz as of
July 5th.
EA6, ISLAND OF MALLORCA. Frank,
ON4CEL, will be on holiday to visit his girlfriend on the
Balearic Islands from July 17-23rd. His callsign was not
mentioned, but he will probably sign /EA6 or EA6/. Activity will
be mainly CW on 40-10 meters (main time 1200-1600z). QSL is OK
via bureau or direct to: Beuselinck Franky, Oostmolenstraat 97,
9880 Aalter, Belgium (Frank has moved to another place, so the
address in the callbook is incorrect).
EP, IRAN. Ali, EP2MKO, has been
active on 15 meters between 1800 and 2000z CW (low end of the
band). He was heard saying that he plans to visit some new IOTAs
in August or September. No other details were given. QSL via
UA6HCW.
FS, ST. MARTIN. Ken/K7ZUM and
Craig/N7KG have firm plans to be active in this year's 1998 CQWW
Phone Contest (October 24-25th). They will be operating all bands
and signing as FS/K7ZUM. QSL via the bureau or direct to the CBA
address of K7ZUM (ex-KA7ZUM). It was also mentioned that Craig,
N7KG, will also be doing a Single Op 160 meters effort as
FS/N7KG. Dates were not given. QSL via the bureau or direct to
his CBA.
