DXReport, KH2D, W3HNK, K4RB, WX5L, N6HR, K8NA, DF4RD, DJ5AV &
DX News Letter, EA3BT, EA3AOK, ER1AA, F2CW, G4BUE & DX News
Sheet, GM4FDM, IK2XDE, ON5NT, PY1KS, PS7AB, RA1QHJ, SV7CLI, VE3ZZ
and ZS5BBO for the following DX information.
3W, VIETNAM. Peter, 3W6EA, has
informed several people that he is restricted to the following
frequencies (using only a maximum 500 watts): 14160, 14260 and
21160 kHz. His activity has been mainly around 1500 to 1630z, but
he has been heard as early as 1245z. QSL to: P.O. Box 121, Ho Chi
Minn City, Vietnam. Meanwhile, the "DX News Sheet"
reports that Mirek, VK3DXI, will be active from August 29th
through September 4th as 3W6DXI. Activity will be mostly CW. QSL
via DL4DBR.
9V, SINGAPORE. "The 59(9)
DXReport" states Mirek, VK3DXI, will start his next
multi-year assignment here in October and hopes to regain his
9V1XE callsign.
AFRICAN ACTIVITY (5X, 5Z4 and
E3). Jacky, F2CW/ZL3CW, is currently in Africa for a 4 month
mission. He is based is Kenya where he is expecting a callsign,
but it may take several weeks ("If not months!", he
states.) Jacky reports to OPDX that he is currently in Uganda for
a few weeks. He has already applied for a callsign which normally
takes a week (if he is lucky it will be 5X2CW). So look for him
to be active soon. Probably the most exciting news is that Jacky
will be going to Eritrea soon, but he doesn't know yet if it will
be possible to obtain a license there. "I will try!!!",
states Jacky. QSLs will be via ZL3CW, Jacky Calvo, PO Box 593,
Pukekohe 1800, New Zealand.
BV9P, PRATAS ISLAND. Randy,
WX5L, reports that during the New Orleans International DX
Convention, Paul, BV4FH, who was a member of the last trip to
Pratas Island, explained how difficult it has been to obtain
proper authorization to return to this highly sensitive island.
He went on to say that they are very close to getting the
"OK" to return sometime between 30 and 60 days. BUT, he
needs our help. Paul needs input from the DX community to
accompany his final push in a few weeks. He is requesting
E-mail's to be sent with a short message indicating our desire
and needs for Pratas Island to be activated. If you need it for
an all time new one, mention that, if you need it for 5B DXCC,
mention that or whatever. Each message received, Paul will make a
hardcopy of it and submit it as a package to show evidence of the
needs and desires of the DX community to the governing authority.
He feels that good representation will be the culmanating
ingredient for approval so that the 10 member team can accomplish
their goal possibly as soon as October. He did mention as soon as
approval is granted, it could happen very fast as they would be
flown in on C-130's as soon as the team can be assembled. Let's
give Paul the help he needs to make the Pratas Island DXpedition
a reality. Pauls E-mail address is: bv4fh@ms2.hinet.net
C2 NAURU. Look for Jack, VK2GJH,
who will once again be active from here between August 26th and
September 5th as C21JH. Activity will be on 80-6 meters, but

SSB Contest. The Team consists of: DF4RD/Dieter, DL5NAM/Chris,
DL8UD/Uwe, DL9NDS/Uwe, OE2VEL/Wolf and OE9MON/Karl. They will
depart on October 14th, and will stay until October 27th. There
will be activity on all bands (including 6 meters, if they get
the permission) before and after the Contest on SSB and CW. There
is a possibility of participation in the WAG-Contest (October
17-18th). More details will be forthcoming (callsign, QSL info,
etc.) as soon as possible. Meanwhile, check out the BCC Web page
at: http://www.uni-erlangen.de/~unrz45/BCC/
DO YOU NEED ZS3? Edwin, ZS5BBO,
reports to OPDX that he has received a number of requests
regarding activity from the ZS3 area in South Africa. He states,
" There are few hams in this area, let alone serious
DXers." Edwin wants to know if there is a serious demand for
contacts from this call area, and if so, he will consider going
to this area in December, 1998. At this stage this is just a
survey, but he would appreciate any feedback regarding this
matter. His E-mail address is: zs5bbo@icon.co.za
ER27, MOLDOVA. Now until August
31st, look for the special callsign ER27A to be active in

you missed the announcement that the ARRL Awards Committee has
accepted a recommendation by the ARRL DX Advisory Committee to
add the Temotu Province of the Solomon Islands to the DXCC List.
The addition will be effective with contacts made beginning 2359z
on March 31, 1998, and after. The DXCC Desk will accept QSL cards
for Temotu Province (H40) beginning October 1, 1998. QSL cards
