plans to make his next trip in late March/early April for a few
weeks. QSL via IK4ZGY.
A9, BAHRAIN. Will, WC6DX, is active until
March 16th as A92GF in Bahrain. He will be operating on all bands
including WARC bands, but especially near the IOTA frequencies.
He is especially looking for North America West Coast stations.
He will be active in the ARRL DX Contest March 6-7th, and has
requested a special contest callsign TBA. North America stations
QSL via WC6DX, others via EA7FR. Bureau cards are welcome to
either call, but please DO NOT QSL to the Bahrain bureau.
BV, TAIWAN. Look for Juergen, DJ3KR, to be
active as BV3/DJ3KR after his Svalbard operation (See JW below).
His activity will take place March 19-23rd and March 26th-April
17th. He will be operating mainly on the low bands and the WARC
bands. QSL via DH3MG.
C5, THE GAMBIA. Frank, ON4CEL (ex-5A21PA),
will be active here March 17-25th. No callsign was mentioned.
Activity will be 80-10 meters mainly on CW, but with some SSB
operations. Frank mentions that just like his 5A operation, he
will try to work USA hams on the lower bands during their
greyline time. QSL via the bureau or direct to: Franky
Beuselinck, Oostmolenstraat 95, 9880 Aalter, Belgium. DO NOT use
the address in the callbooks. There will be an on-line log
available on his Web site after the operation at: http://user.online.be/~frankyb/index.html
C5, THE GAMBIA (Update). Steve, G3VMW,
reports that he has been issued the callsign C56SW for his
DXpedition trip to The Gambia next week. Please refer to
OPDX.393. He will be active on all bands 160-10 meters between
March 4-18th, from Kololi, near Banjul, mainly on CW. His

logs will be on his Web page with a log search when he returns
back home.
CE0AA DXPEDITION UPDATE. A few additional
details about the CE0AA DXpedition to Easter Island have been
provided (Thanks to N5AW and XQ3IDY). The team will leave
Santiago at 1200z on Saturday, February 27th, to take a 5 hour
flight to CE0 and stay until March 20th. They will have 6
stations up and plan to include 6 meters. It wasn't clear if
there will be an experienced 6 meter operator along, but they
were advised to use the 50.110 DX calling frequency. They are
also planning operation on 160 meters (1830 khz) and have special
permission to operate on 30 meters (10.105 mhz). The QSL route is
via CE3WDH as previously reported.
E44DX WRAP-UP. Excerpts from a press release
from Tim Totten, N4GN, state that the E44DX team of W3UR, OH1RY,
OH2TA and OH2BH returned to Tel Aviv, Israel on Tuesday, 23
February, after completing 33,775 QSOs with 14,640 individual
DXers in 7 days of operation from Gaza City, Palestine. SPECIAL
NOTE: The complete press release will be provided to all OPDX
InterNet Subscribers. However, the press release states that
please QSL E44DX via OH2BN. A multi-color, folded QSL card is
being designed. Meanwhile, an on-line log search is now available
at the official E44DX web site: http://www.n4gn.com/e44dx/.
Due to the number of requests from DXers with E-mail-only
accounts, the same log search database may now also be searched
via e-mail! Simply send a message to e44dx-log@n4gn.com with your
call sign at the beginning of the SUBJECT line. The BODY of the
message is ignored. Coming soon--the E44DX Internet Slide Show!
Watch the web site for further details.
E4, PALESTINE. The update on the IARV team in
Palestine is that Yoshi, JA1UT, returned home last Wednesday and
Toshi, JA8RUZ, and the others will be or should be QRT (on
Monday) by the time you read this. However, the four Hungarian
DXers, Zoli/HA1AG, Gyula/HA1TJ, Anti/HA3OV and Laci/HA3NU
operating as E44/HA1AG from Gaza, will be active until 1300z on
March 3rd. The operators have mainly focused on CW but have
operated on SSB and RTTY. The team has kept two stations on the
air simultaniously around the clock. Their preferred frequency
has been 7 kHz from the band edge on CW and 80 kHz on RTTY. SSB
has been on the usual DX windows. A Web page has been set up for
on-line QSO look up at: http://www.okdxc.cz/e44 QSL via Zoli Pitman,
HA1AG, Somogyi Bela ut 18, Gyor H-9024, HUNGARY. SPECIAL NOTICE:
In some callbooks (RAC), the Zip code is given as 9300. It's
wrong! Although the letters sent to the wrong zip code reach
HA1AG, it take much longer. QSLs will be printed right after the
operation. Another station signing, E41/OK1DTP, has been active
on the 80/20/10 meters bands. Not much is known about this
station and activity has been very limited. The operator states
he is in Jenin, West Bank, and to QSL to OK1TD.
E44IPA, PALESTINE? Ben, OZ5AAH, Chairman of
International Police Radio Club in Denmark (ex OX3IPA, OY5IPA,
TF/OZ5IPA, HS0/OZ5IPA and more) will be active from Hebron area
from March 10-15th. The callsign has not yet been confirmed by
authorities, but Ben will try to get E44IPA. Activity will be
mainly CW on the WARC bands and the lower bands. QSL via home
callsign, direct only. QSLs are good for most police awards
(Sherlock Holmes, Hercule Poirot and Lt. Colombo). Any
support/donations are most welcome. His E-mail address is: beniparc@post3.tele.dk
His Web page is: http://home3.inet.tele.dk/beniparc/
FR5/T, TROMELIN ISLAND. Henri, FR5ZQ, now
signing FR5ZQ/T, has been active over the weekend on 20 and 10
meters SSB. He will be there until March 3rd. Activity seems to
take place around 1800z and 0300z.
FT5Z, AMSTERDAM ISLAND (This one is interesting!).
The "Picture DX Bulletin" reports that Mikael, FT5ZJ,
is more frequently active now on SSTV. He is mostly seen on 20
meters between 1600 and 2000z. QSL F2YT. See the "Picture DX
Bulletin's" pictures of the month at: http://www.ping.be/on4vt/
FW, WALLIS ISLAND (Update). Cedric, HB9HFN,
now signing FW5FN, reported eariler in the week that he lost his
amplifier after only 300 QSOs. He also states that propagation is
not very good but hopes it will improve. Europe, look for him on
10108 or 10135 kHz as it seems that there no EU QRM on these
frequencies. Cedric states there will be NO 160 meters due to his
linear and no trees for support around the hotel. He will,
however, spend more time on 80 meters.
HK, COLOMBIA. Gerard, F2JD, who is active as
HK3/G0SHN and can ususally be found on HF, is now active on 6
meters also. Sorry, no QSNs yet.
IOTA NEWS...
EU-088. Tom, OZ5TOM, will be active from Lasoe Island
from April 18-25th, as OZ5TOM. He will only be active on
20/40/80 meters SSB, from aprox. 1900-0300z every day
while he is on holiday. He does mention that if 10 meters
is open, he will also try there. Tom will use only 100w
and a wire antenna. QSL only direct via Tom Wallin,
P.O.Box 202, DK-2640 Hedehus, Denmark.
NA-168. Chris, W5CTV, will operate from Grand Isle in the
Gulf of Mexico, March 6-7th, possibly the evening of the
5th. Chris will only have 10 meters and will operate on
the IOTA frequency (28460 kHz). QSL DIRECT to: Chris
Vincent, 2620 Long Branch Dr., Marrero, LA, 70072, USA or
via Bureau.
OC-066. Guy, FO5QA, is a newly authorized licensed
resident on the Tikehau Atoll in the Tuamotu Archipelago.
SA-084. Pedro, HK3JJH, will try to active Cacagual Island
for two days March 6-7th (another source reports March
3-4th). He hopes to arrive on Malpelo Island after his
Cacagual operation and be active on 10, 15, and 20 meters
SSB. QSL direct: P.O. Box 81119, Bogota, Columbia.
JW, SVALBARD. By the time you read this,
Juergen, DJ3KR, should be active as JW/DJ3KR until March 5th. He
will be operating mainly on the low bands and the WARC bands. QSL
via DH3MG.
KG4, GUANTANAMO BAY. Look for Vic/N4TO and
Arlan/N4OO to be active as KG4TO and KG4BV, respectively, from
March 12-22nd. Operations will be primarily CW, and they will
concentrate on the LF and WARC bands. QSLs via the home callsign
of the operators, KG4BV via N4OO and KG4TO via N4TO.
PJ8, ST. MAARTEN. George, W3EH (ex K2KTT),
will be activating PJ8/W3EH (formerly PJ7/K2KTT) from March
2-9th. He will be an entry in the 10 meter ARRL Phone DX Contest.
As time permits, George hopes to be active on 80-10 meters both
CW/SSB. QSL via W3EH, or for older listings including all
paperback callbooks back to 1982, QSL via K2KTT.
QSL INFO AND NEWS...
Jean Michel, F6AJA, reports that the cards for 5R8OP and
5R8PR are still at the printers', PLEASE be patient.
Hamad, 9K2HN, reports that he has added his log book to
his Web page at: http://www.gate.net/~morpheus/hamad/9k2hn.html
He states that there are 79959 QSOs listed. He has also
currently added the following logs that he manages: 9K2F,
9K5HN, 9K2HN/P and 9K0A. If you have any comments, please
contact him at: 9k2hn@kubbar.com
LZ5W was active in CQWW WPX RTTY as a Single Op on 7 MHz.
The operator was Slavi, LZ1MC. QSL via LZ1MC.
JA1UT's address is: Yoshio Hayashi, 4-20-2-401
Nishigotanda, Shinagawa, Tokyo, 141-0031 Japan
VK9XX/VK9YY. Charlie, W0YG, informed OPDX that they made
over 12K QSOs from both islands (more QSOs were made from
Cocos-Keeling than Christmas Island). He did mention that
the cards must be re-ordered before QSLing can begin. The
initial batch of cards received cannot be sent out (ed.
reason not given). Charlie wants to remind everyone to
PLEASE not send the VK9XX and VK9YY cards in the same
envelope. Separate operations require separate envelopes.
They will QSL one operation per envelope, but if you sent
two separate cards in one envelope, you will have to
re-QSL. Charlie states, "Any other way is just too
inefficient and adds too much time to a volunteer job
anyhow." By the way, they are already talking about
the next trip!
Bin JA3EMU, QSL Manager for TZ6JA, states that he will
accept QSL cards via the JARL bureau until the end of May
in the year 2000. The reason is that he is withdrawing
from the JARL. From June in 2000 onward, do not send QSL
cards to the bureau, only direct to his QTH with SASE.
Ciro, PY7ZY, informs OPDX that he is receiving QSLs for
his PY7ZY/7 DXpedition to Itamaraca Island (SA-046), but
with two problems: 1) Many IRC were received without the
stamp of the origin country. This is impossible to make
exchange for postage returns. 2) Many DXers are sending
cards without IRC/SASE. In these cases, QSL cards will be
sent via bureau. All QSL cards that were received will
start going out beginning March 1st.
ZF2MO, who has been quite active in contests the last few
weekends, reports that his QSL route is via OM2SA.
S21, BANGLADESH. It seems Bob, G3REP,
continues to be active as S21YP on 20 meters CW. Activity seems
to be around 0200 and 0300z. QSL via home callsign.
SV/A, MOUNT ATHOS. Several sources are
reporting that Vangelis, SV2BFN, and possibly two other operators
are planning to be active at the end of May. This will mainly be
a SSB/RTTY operation.
WEBSITES FOR DXERS...
The K1WY DX Association has moved its web site to a new
server. The new address of the Web Site is: http://pws.prserv.net/k1wydxa.
Kelly, KE9KD, reports a new Website called DX-Central
DotCom is now set up and running at: http://www.dx-central.com.
Kelly and a few other guys maintain this Web site which
is dedicated to DX. They built the site because they
found themselves frustrated in having to jump from site
to site to get DX information. This site is 100%
interactive and completely database driven. One is able
to do callsign lookups, get QSL route and manager info,
view a real time feed of the PacketCluster network, check
logbooks and have an interactive chat session. The site
also features a fully searchable index of ARRL and OPDX
bulletins. They hope to add more in the near future. They
are hoping this web site will be of value to the DXer and
encourage input from the visitors.
YK, SYRIA. It has been reported that Omar,
YK1AO, can usually be found on Fridays on the low end of 40
meters looking for USA stations. He has a good signal, but you
have to QRS a bit to around 13 wpm. The best time to find him is
0400-0500z (late stateside Thrusday nite). Bob, N2SU, states,
"This makes sense because Friday is the Muslim sabbath and
is a good time to try for Middle Eastern stations..... FYI, Syria
is #26 Most Needed (World) and #24 (USA) according to The DX
Magazine."
ZP40, PARAGUAY. Tom, ZP5AZL, will be active
in the ARRL DX Phone Contest March 6-7th, possibly using the
special callsign ZP40Z. The same callsign will be used again in
the CQ WPX SSB Contest in late March. His activity will be on all
bands, especially the high bands. QSL via W3HNK. Also, look for
Juan, ZP5MAL, to be active in the ARRL DX Phone Contest using the
callsign ZP6T. He will only be active 1on 5 meter as a High Power
entry. QSL via his home callsign.
ZV0, ST. PETER & ST. PAUL ARCHIPELAGO.
Paul, PT2NP, Director-Secretary of the ABRA (DX Brazilian
Association) provides the following update. The DXpedition will
be using the call signs: ZV0SB (SSB) and ZV0SW (CW). Also, for
the first time during their DXpeditions, they will try to work on
160 meters. The following is their suggested frequencies: CW -
1825, 3505, 7005, 10140, 14005, 18075, 21005, 24895 and 28005 SSB
- 1835, 3785, 7055, 14195, 18145, 21295, 24935 and 28495 kHz
Their main pilot and land coordinator will again be Ari, PT2BW.
There will be at least another pilot. They are making the best
effort to work in RTTY too, but it is not sure for the present.
If this mode happens, the call sign will be ZV0SY and frequencies
will be around 14080 and 21080 kHz. For more details, please
refer to OPDX.395 and the ABRA Web site at: http://www.pt2dx.org.br.
