IK0AZG, JA1HGY, OK2AP, ON6DP, OZ6ACD, PA1AW, PP8EB, SM7NAS,
UA0CW, VK4AAR, VK6APK and XE1HBU for the following DX
information.
5A22PA UPDATE. Veronica, IK3ZAW, informs OPDX
that since the announcement of the 5A22PA operation she has been
receiving a lot of E-mails asking whether she is Abu Baker's
(5A1A) QSL Manager or not. Please understand that she will be the
QSL Manager for the 5A22PA special event station ONLY (NOT 5A1A)!
This special callsign has been issued to celebrate the 22nd
anniversary of "The 1st Born Jamahiriya in History",
and the suffix "PA" stands for "People
Authority". QSL 5A22PA "ONLY" to: Veronica Della
Dora, Piazza Fiume 14, 30126 Lido di Venezia-VE, Italy.
9H, MALTA. The "DX News Sheet reports
that Andy, G4ZVJ, will be active this week as 9H3ZV (March
9-16th). His activity will include an entry in the RSGB
Commonwealth Contest. QSL via home call.
C9, MOZAMBIQUE. The "DX News Sheet
reports that Per, LA7FAA, is active as C91CV from Quipaco Island
(NO IOTA Number). They state that he was spotted on 10 meters SSB
(February 28th), his length of stay is not known. No QSNs have
been reported on the Ohio/Penn Network. QSL via home call.
DXCC ACCEPTANCE OF ZL9CI. Ken Holdom, ZL2HU,
Group Organizer/Team Leader/ QSL Manager of the Kermadec DX
Association Campbell Island DXpedition, announced that the ARRL
DXCC Desk has accepted the ZL9CI Campbell Island - January 1999
DXpedition for DXCC purposes. Ken also mentions that they are
currently awaiting the printed cards from Japan and will post
progressive updates in the near future.
E4, PALESTINE. Ayar, OZ6ACD, now active as
E44/OZ6ACD, has informed OPDX that he will be active from the
Headquaraters of the "Temporary Inter- national Presence in
Hebron" (TIPH) in the West Bank. Apparently, Ayar is the
first licensed station to operate with the E4 prefix from the
West Bank. This leaves the question of the E41/OK1DTP's
legitimacy (mentioned in last week's bulletin). Some reports
state that the Deputy Minister of the MPT (in Gaza) has no record
of this station. Probably the most interesting thing is that
operator David Lunak, OK1DTP, has put up a Web page
at: http://okdxc.cz/e41/.
The Web site contains a log search. As always, work first worry
later. You never know what will happen. Anyway, Ayar, E44/OZ6ACD,
has receieved equipment from the Martti/OH2BH E44DX group and the
JA1UT/E4 group. This equipment will be left behind for the newly
established amateur radio group called the "Palestine
Amateur Wireless Society (PAWS)" at the College of
Technology in Gaza. E44/OZ6ACD will be active almost every day
after 1400z, and on each Sunday morning until 0800z. However, he
will be QRT between March 17-26th. Activity will be on all HF
bands 80-10 meters. 160 meters is still uncertain, but 6 meters
will be used frequently. Suggested frequencies are:
SSB (+/-QRM) - 3794, 7044, 14244,
18144, 21244, 24944 and 28444 kHz
CW (+/-QRM) - 3504, 7004, 10104,
14004, 18074, 21004, 24894 and 28004
CW activity will be limited, but OZ5IPA (as mentioned in last
week's bulletin) will provide more CW activity when he arrives to
be active from the same QTH (March 10-15th). QSL for E44/OZ6ACD
should be sent to his QSL Manager OZ1ACB via the bureau or direct
to: Allis Anderson, Kagsaavej 34, DK-2730 Herlev, Denmark. Ayar
also mentions to please check the following Web site for the
latest info and for QSO search: http://www.tiph.org/e44/search.htm
"The Daily DX" reports another operator is headed to
E4-land. Peter, G3WQU, has submitted his paper work for a license
to operate from Bethlehem, West Bank. He hopes to be active soon
as E44/G3WQU.
E44/HA1AG WRAP-UP. Zoli/HA1AG, Gyula/HA1TJ,
Laci/HA3NU and Anti/HA3OV are all back in Hungary without any
problem. They are all in good spirits but are very tired. In less
than 9 days with 4 operators, each operating 12 hours day in
front a radio, they made 40500 QSOs. The only problems they had
during the operation was with the hotel's phone and TV systems,
but the staff was very tolerant! Look for more info to be
forthcoming from Zoli soon!
EA8, CANARY ISLANDS. By the time you read
this Holger, DL7AU, should be active from Fuerteventura for about
4 weeks. His callsign was not mentioned, but he will be active
mainly on RTTY. He will also be active in the CQWW WPX Contest as
a 10 meters single band entry. QSL via DL7VRO.
FT5X, KERGUELEN ISLAND. The "DX News
Letter" reports that Helios, F6IHY, shall be once again on
the air as FT5XN starting sometime this month.
IOTA NEWS...
OC-136. Alan, VK8AV, is currently on a DXpedition to
Phillip Island and signinng VK8AV/3 until mid-March. He
wants to work CW 30 kHz up from the band edges on 10, 12,
15, 17, 20, 30, 40 meters, but when things are slow he
will work on SSB on the IOTA, DX and popular net
frequencies. His QSL Manager will be Alan, VK4AAR, who
will also be able to confirm other QSOs with VK8AV if
needed. Please QSL DIRECT with SAE + postage to: Alan
Roocroft, VK4AAR, POB 421, Gatton 4343, Australia
OC-141. Stuart, VK8NSB, has announced that he will be
going to Groote Eylandt from April 3-18th. He will use
the callsign VK8NSB/P and will be operating a HF IOTA
Station on 80/15/10 meters CW/SSB. QSL via VK9NS.
OC-170. Beginning 0400z Sunday, March 14th through 0000z
Sunday, March 21st, a group of operators from VK6-land
will be active from Woody Island. A team of 12 operators
have finalized all their traveling plans and have
received permission to operate from the island. The group
will hopefully use the callsign VI6EWI. This is yet to be
confirmed. The group will work all bands, 80-70cm, both
SSB and CW from 4 HF and 3 VHF/UHF stations. They will be
staying as close as possible to the recognised IOTA
frequencies. QSL Manager for this expedition is
Neil Penfold VK6NE. His address is "OK" in all
callbooks and Internet callsign databases. Bureau cards
will also be accepted.
JW, SVALBARD. Kjell, SM7NAS, will be active
from Longyearbyen as JW/SM7NAS from April 2-8th. Activity will be
on all HF bands, CW, SSB and RTTY using 1kW to a 5 element beam
for 10, 15 and 20 meters 100 ft up, a delta loop on 40 meters and
an inverted L for the other bands. The JW/SM7NAS log will be
available soon after the operation at: http://home.bip.net/kjell_adolf. QSL via the
bureau or direct to: Kjell Adolfsson, Svensbackevagen 6D,
SE-59096 Overum, Sweden
KG4, GUANTANAMO BAY (Update/Change). The
following group of operators will be active March 18-25th and
during the BARTG RTTY CONTEST (March 20-21st)as KG4GC and not
KG4WB as reported earlier. Operators will be Bill/W4WX (KG4GC),
William/N2WB (KG4WB) and Vance/N5VL (KG4VL). They will be on all
bands before and after the contest using thier own calls. QSL
KG4GC to W4WX and all others to the homecalls.
OH0/OJ0, ALAND ISLAND AND MARKET REEF. Dennis
Motschenbacher, K7BV, Editor for the National Contest Journal,
will be going to Aland Island to operate the new OH0Z super
station in the CQ WPX CW Contest at the invitation of station
owners Ari/OH1EH, Jukka/OH2MAM, and OH1JT. Look for OH0/K7BV to
be used before and after the contest. Dennis states that there is
a very high probability that his DXpedition will include a 3 to 4
day OJ0/K7BV operation from Market Reef thanks to a generous
invitation from Seppo/OH1VR and Lars/OH0RJ who control the
operations of the beacon on the reef. OH1VR will accompany him to
the reef and then operate in the CQ WPX CW contest after Dennis's
departure by helicopter to get back to OH0Z in time for the same
contest.
K7BV's DXpedition will occur between May 23rd and June 3rd. CW
will be the preferred mode of operation on all HF bands including
WARC band opportunities. Also, look for RS12 satellite activity
(he will be on the air as frequently as possible). If a small
transceiver can be borrowed, 6 meters will definitely get some
attention. Carl, K9LA, will provide Dennis with extensive
propagation forecasting support to insure the efficient use of
the lower bands. Unfortunately, short hours of darkness, six in
May in the northern latitudes, will severely limit opportunities
to satisfy the need for these countries on 80 and 160 meters.
George K5KG (E-mail: GeorgeK5KG@aol
) will perform Pilot Station duties and daily feed constructive
input from the DX community to K7BV via HF skeds. QSL
Infomation: OH0 - OJ0/K7BV via KU9C and OH0Z via OH1EH, Ari
Korhonen, Kreetalank. 9 As 1, FIN-29200 Harjavalta, Finland

PY5CC, to become active again March 21-29th, as PY0FF. Activity
will be on all bands with special attention paid to 6 meters. QSL
via JA1VOK.
QSL INFO AND NEWS...
HC8L QSLS. OPDX has been receiving several messages
asking where to QSL this station. The operator states to
QSL via the bureau. Your editor has tried to find
"the HC8 address" , but with no luck. I guess
one could use the "ARRL Outgoing Bureau" and
hope that someone will pick up the cards at the HC
Ecuador Bureau. Reports indicate that the operator is
Dave, W6NL (ex-W6QHS). The only thing we can suggest is
to wait and see if something (address) comes out after
this past weekend's contest.
IR0MFP. This special event station, whose suffix stands
"Millennium For Peace", was active during last
weekend's ARRL SSB Contest and has the QSL Manager of
IK0AZG.
All the logs from the "OK DXpedition Pacific99"
will be online very soon. Currently only the logs for
3D2TN have been entered. Check the Web sites: http://www.okdxc.cz/pacific99.
GOOD NEWS. The XZ1N cards have been coming out. Watch
your mail box!

operating on 160-6 meters CW/SSB/RTTY. They will concentrate on
the WARC bands. Look for the following (station/QSL route): T88AJ
(7N3AWE), T88HY (JA1HYF), T88HG (JA1HGY), T88?? (JK1OPL), and
T88RK (JA1BRK). The main RTTY operator will be T88AJ (7N3AWE).
TL5A NOW QRT. Alex, PA1AW, reports that Alex,
TL5A, has put 74000 QSOs in the log, and together with his TL0R
operation this makes over 80000 QSOs from the Central African
Republic. During a short stop in PA-land on route to a new
assignment, Alex will get the full logs from Alex, TL5A/ PA3DZN,
to update the Web log search pages at: http://www.qsl.net/tl5a
This will probably be sometime this week. QSL via PA1AW
(ex-PA3DMH).
TP50, FRANCE. Paul, ON6DP, states he will be
active with ON7RN as TP50CE from the special event station
celebrating the Council of Europe's 50th year anniversary, April
30th to May 2nd. QSL via F6FQK.
V3, BELIZE. Bert, PA3GIO, plans to be active
as V31GI from a few Belize IOTAs. Look for him March 14-19th from
Southwest Caye (Glovers Reef NA-180), March 21-26th from
Blackbird Caye (Turneffe Islands NA-123) and March 28th through
April 3rd from Little Water Caye (NA-180). Activity will be on
SSB 20-10 meters on the usual IOTA frequencies, 40 meters and the
WARC bands. Bert will be using a TS-50 with 100 watts and dipole.
Check out his great and colorful Web site at: http://www.xs4all.nl/~pa3gio/ca/. QSL via
