WB2RAJ/WB2YQH & The 59(9) DXReport, AJ3M, W3UR & The
Daily DX, N4VA, N5VT, N6RT, K8YSE, W9DC, A35RK, DJ5AV & DX
News Letter, DL5KAT, DL9GDB, G4BUE & DX News Sheet, GM3WOJ,
GM4YXI, IK1QBT, JA1ELY, JA1IST, LA0CX, LU9AY, ON6TT, OZ8AE,
PA3GIO, SM7PKK, VA3JFF, VK8AV, 4L5O and 9A4KK for the following
DX information.
4L, GEORGIA. Omari, 4L5O, informs OPDX that
Georgia has two autonomy republics, Apkhazia and Adjara.
According to Omari, only the following prefixes and suffix are
good (anything else is a pirate):
Apkhazia (ex-UF6V) can use the prefixes/suffix: 4L1-4L0 and
the first letter in the suffix "V" it means APKHAZIA.
Adjara (ex-UF6Q) can use the prefixes/suffix: 4L1-4L0 and
the first letter in the suffix "Q" it means ADJARA.
For more details/questions contact Omari via E-mail at: 4L5O@caucasus.net.
4U1UN, UNITED NATIONS. It has been reported
that Mats, SM7PKK/5X1Z, and Peter, ON6TT/5X1T, will be active
from 4U1UN on May 16-18th, right after Dayton. However, reports
indicate that there are no antennas in place at 4U1UN for DXing.
The only antenna available is a beacon antenna which is owned by
the beacon group and not available for normal amateur use. LATE
BREAKING NEWS.... Your editor talked to Peter at the Dayton
HamVention this past weekend, and he told me that Mats and he
will "definitely" operate from 4U1UN. He also said that
there are antennas in place to use. Also, Peter and Mats will be
traveling to Kosovo in about a week.
5P, DENMARK. The CEPT Amateur Radio Club will
sign 5P1ER from the European Radiocommunication Office in
Copenhagen during the CQ WPX Contest. The operator will be OZ8AE.
All QSOs will be QSLed via the bureau.
6O, REPUBLIC OF SOMALILAND (Possible new one? WFWL!).
You still have a few days to work Baldur/DJ6SI and Franz/DJ9ZB as
6O0X and 6O1Z, respectively. Operation is to terminate May 18th.
DJ6SI will operate CW while DJ9ZB will operate SSB. They are
operating from Hargeiza, the capital city. QSL via their home
callsigns. Somaliland declared independence from Somalia on May
18, 1991, although the independence of Somaliland has not been
recognized by other countries. Somaliland has its own elected
government and parliament. This is not enough to be added as a
new "ENTITY" for DXCC. Somaliland must meet one of the
three criteria (under DXCC Rules Section II Part 1): 1 - UN
Member State; 2 - Assigned a callsign prefix bloc by the ITU; and
3 - A separate IARU Member Society. If anything, this operation
"MAY" count for T5 or nothing for DXCC. As always,
WFWL! More information about Somaliland can be found on the Web
site at: http://www.anaserve.com/~mbali/home.htm.
9H3, MALTA. Dieter, DL9GDB, will be active as
9H3UT from May 22nd through June 3rd, from Comino Island. QSL via
DL9GDB via bureau or direct to: Dieter Brachmann, Kolumbusring
56, 18106 Rostock, Germany. QSL requests are possible via E-mail
to: dl9gdb@t-online.de.
A35RK SPECIAL REQUEST. Paul, A35RK, has
recently been plagued with equipment and antenna failures and is
in need some help getting new rigs, antennas, and parts to Tonga.
If anyone is planning a trip to Tonga, and would be willing to
hand-carry some "stuff" for him, PLEASE contact his QSL
Manager, Bob Preston (W7TSQ) at: w7tsq@aol.com.
Or meet Paul and Bob on 14155 kHz at 0330z. Paul states that he
will gladly pay all "over-weight baggage" charges and
any other additional travel expenses incurred. Also, he will
gladly "put you up" for free at his family guesthouse
on Lifuka Island, Ha'apai, while you're there.
ATTENTION CANADIAN ISLAND AWARD CHASERS!
Jeff, VA3JFF, will be activating 2 islands on June 5th. Starting
at about 1700z, Jeff will operate from ON-149 (Bobcaygeon), and

and operate from there for a few hours. He will use his callsign
VA3JFF on both islands.

Chris, GM3WOJ, reports that the North of Scotland Contest Group
(GM7V) is mounting a major expedition to the Shetland Islands for
the CQ Worldwide SSB Contest in October 2000. They hope to sign a
special callsign ??7V - a possible new prefix to identify
Shetland from mainland Scotland - more details later.
CY9, ST PAUL ISLAND. The "DX News

VE and W operators will be active from here June 5-14th as CY9SS.

"DX IS" Martti.
EAST TIMOR (Closer to becoming a new one?).
