OHIO SPECIAL EVENT/ACTIVITES...
AMATEUR RADIO DAY AT THE ZOO. Look for
special event stations to be activated from the
"Cleveland Metroparks Zoo (K8ZOO) and the RainForest
(K8CRF)" by several local clubs on August 28th (9
a.m. - 7 p.m.). This day is to promote amateur radio and
give the families of amateur radio operators around the
world a fun day at the Cleveland Metroparks Zoo and
RainForest. Discounted vouchers will be available for all
amateur radio operators and families. Check-in frequency
will be the NODXA 147.36 repeater. For more information,
contact Dwaine, K8ME, at 216-676-7996.
OHIO QSO PARTY. Many Ohio amateurs will
participate in the Ohio QSO Party to be held August 28th.
The Mad River Radio Club has assumed sponsorship of the
OQP with the assistance and support of the Cuyahoga Falls
Amateur Radio Club and the Buckeye Belles, who had
sponsored the contests in previous years. The major
change in the OQP rules is that the contest will now be a
twelve hour event. The first OQP under MRRC sponsorship
will be Saturday, August 28, 1999, from noon to midnight
local (EDT) time. Complete details of the event will be
sent to all OPDX InterNet Subscribers as an additional
bulletin. The full rules for the OQP may be found at the
MRRC Web Page at: http://www.qsl.net/mrrc/oqp.html.
Also, an abbreviated set is listed in August, 1999, QST,
on page 92.
3X, GUINEA (Another interesting callsign!).
Look for Karel, ON4QY, to sign 3XY2A from Conakry for the next
few years. Karel was spotted this past week on 21275 kHz between
1630 and 1930z. QSL via ON4QY.
5H, TANZANIA. Wayne/K8LEE and Roger/WD8SDL
will be active from Dar es Salaam, October 19th through November
2nd, as 5H3/homecall. They will also be active as a Multi/Single
entry in the CQWW SSB Contest teaming up with Dave Heil and using
the callsign 5H3US. QSL via home call and 5H3US via WA8JOC.
9L, SIERRA LEONE. The "DX News
Letter" reports that Jacky, F2CW/ZL3CW, is here and hopes to
receive a licence for the next three months.
FO, CLIPPERTON ISLAND (To be activated in the year
2000). John, N7CQQ, and The N7CQQ Amateur Radio Club
report in a press release that they have finalized plans for
their expedition to the Clipperton Island scheduled for February
26, 2000 through March 15, 2000. They will be aboard the motor
vessel Shogun from San Diego, California. Their goal is to
provide as many European and other stations with a new country on
as many band modes as possible. The last operation to Clipperton
Island was in 1992 (FO0CI). Transportation is limited and very
expensive going to the island. Also, difficult but not impossible
to obtain the license and landing permit, but the team has them
in hand. They plan to operate from two locations each having 3
stations. Each operating location will have specialized mode/band
capability to enhance the CW or SSB operation. Those specialties
will cover RTTY, Satellite, 6 meters and 160 meters. Some of the
operators who have expressed a desire to go are: Peter/ON6TT,
Charlie/W6KK, Mike/N9NS, Al/K3VN, Vincent/G0LMX, James/ 9V1YC,
Jacques/ZL3CW(F2CW), Arie/PA3DUU, Werner/HB9US, Ron/W6OM (N6VO),
Ruech/HB9AHL, Stan/FO5IW, Bill/N2WB, Ralph/K0IR, Michael/N6MZ,
Bob/K4UEE, Koji/JK7TKE and their host John/N7CQQ. This operation
will need financial assistance due to the high costs. If you
would like to help offset costs, donations can be sent to: N7CQQ
Amateur Radio Club, Inc., P.O. Box 81, Searchlight, Nevada 89046
(ACCOUNT: 4961527327 Bank of America). They will have a
CLIPPERTON ISLAND Web Site to provide updated information as the
operation progresses. This site is made possible by the endless
efforts of Doug, N6RT. The complete press release will be sent to
all OPDX InterNet Subscribers as an additional bulletin.
FO0, AUSTRAL ISLANDS. "The 59(9)
DXReport" reports that JK1TKE will be active October 14-24th
from Tubuai Island. Activity will be on HF and 6 Meters. No
callsign was given.

on the air August 26-30th, from Key Breton. Six Cuban
operators will be active during 58 hours on SSB and CW
simultaneously on the 10/15/20/40/80 meters. This
DXpedition could be postponed until next month in case of
bad climate conditions. QSL via C02FRC.
SA-046. A group of Brazilian hams will
operate from the island of Santo Aleixo (DIB PE-03 for
the Brazilian Islands Award). The operation will be on
all HF bands (CW and SSB) from September 3-12th. The

possible water damage. Bill will attempt to operate on all bands,
and he is hoping to be able to load up on 12/17/40/80/160 meters

southern part of Greenland (NA-018) from September 4th - October
5th. Activity will be on all bands CW. He will take part in the
SAC Contest (CW) on September 18th 1200z-September 19th 1200z

Full Diploe for 160m, a 100m long wire and hundreds of 10-50
