3B8, MAURITIUS. The French DX Bulletin
"LNDX" reports that ON4LAC will be active as 3B8/ON4LAC
from October 1-28th. He will operate on SSB on 20, 17, 15, 12 and
10 meters.
3C0R ANNOBON DXPEDITION. By the time you read
this, the DXpedition team SHOULD be on the island. From a press
release by Tony/EA5BY, the DXpedition crew departed from Alicante
airport Sunday, September 12th, at 0430z and arrived on Sao Tome
on Sunday night. They will depart from Sao Tome to Annobon on
Monday morning. It was reported that the generators, fuel, food
and some hardware arrived safely on the island over the past
week. Tony states that he will announce the operation starting
time on Tuesday via the InterNet and DXClusters. They will have
four operating stations. The team was provided with propagation
charts for the following areas: USA West-Mid-East Coast,
Caribean, South America, Africa, West-Central- Eastern Europe,
Mid Asia, Japan, Alaska, Hawaii, South Pacific and Australia. The
suggested operating frequencies will be:
SSB - 28395, 24945, 21295, 18135, 14195, 7065, 3799 kHz
(They will announce their QSX during the operation.)
CW - 28025, 24895, 21025, 18075, 14025, 10105, 7005, 3505,
1833 kHz.
RTTY - 21085, 14085. (for the moment).
Operations on 6 meters will depend of propagation. They will
try 50110 kHz. ALL the antennas are donated by CUSHCRAFT thanks
to BIT RADIO - EA3NY. They will test the NEW model MA5B during
the expedition. The QSL information is: EA5FVY, Angel Garcia
Mendoza, P.O. Box: 3045, 03080 Alicante, Spain. All QSLs received
via Bureau will be answered after direct QSLs. There will not be
log-chek via InterNet during the expedition. They will post them

4U1ITU. Look for Miquel, EA5FFC, to be active
from ITU-HQ September 13-24th. He plans to be active on all bands
including the WARC bands CW/SSB. QSL via 4U1ITU.
9M6, EAST MALAYSIA. "The 59(9)
DXReport" reports that Phil, G3SWH, plans to be active as
9M6PWT from Sabah November 3-12th. QSL via homecall.
9X, RWANDA. Beginning September 15th, the
special field club station, which belong to the Russian Amateur
Radio Emergency Service RARES will once again be activated for
the next several months. This station was orginally activated by
Andy/RW3AH in 1997-1998 as 9X0A. Look for Vladimir, RE3A, to be
active as 9X/RE3A from this station. Vladimir Legoshin is a
well-known Russian rescuer (lifeguard) from the Ministry of
Emergency situations and Civil Defense and has operated in 1996
as 5H/R3ARES from Tanzania during the UNHCR and EMERCOM
humanitarian actions for the Rwandies refugees in Tanzanian
camps. Vladimir's mission to Africa is to create a school for
local rescuers (Lifeguard school) which is supported by
UNDP-EMERCOM (a joint project). Vladimir is leader of the Russian
team who will stay there for several months. The school location
is near Nyanza village in the center of Rwanda (Same QTH as
9X0A). All HF equipment was granted by Andy/RW3AH and has been
installed there earlier. The antenna is a TH3mk4 from
"HyGain". The transceiver is a FT-900 and a Henry Radio
Amp is there and only works on 14-21-28 Mhz (the 7 and 3.5 MHz
needs work). It has been requested to "Please NOT call
Vladimir during his operation on the daily RARES Net." Check

A3, TONGA. The "DX News Letter"
reports that Klaus/DJ4SO and Manfred/DJ7RJ will be active from
Fafa Island (OC-049) as A35SO and A35ZL between September 27th
and October 27th. They intend to operate in CW, SSB, RTTY (also
PSK31) on all HF bands and 50 MHz. QSLs via homecalls (direct or
via bureau). Also see ZK2.
ATTENTION POLICE AWARD HUNTERS (This is a CODE BLUE).
Ben, OZ5AAH, (ex- OY5IPA, OX3IPA, TF/OZ5IPA, LA/OZ5IPA,
HS0/OZ5IPA and E44/OZ5IPA) is on the move again. From 1100z
November 5th until 1100z November 8th, including the IPARC
Contest (November 6th 0600-1000z and 1400-1800z [CW] plus
November 7th 0600-1000 and 1400-1800z [SSB]), he will be active
as SM/OZ5IPA. He requests to PLEASE, PLEASE notice in the contest
hours PRIORITY to other police radio amateurs and contesters (the
contest is open to all hams). QSL OZ5AAH Ben, 9 Knoldager, 2670
Greve, DENMARK direct only. Contest information can be found on

Outside contest hours look for Ben on the WARC and low bands.
C6A, BAHAMAS. Look for Ed, WA3WSJ, to be
active as WA3WSJ/C6A from Abaco Island (NA-080), November
23-30th. His activity will be QRP on all bands CW/SSB. Also, look
for him in the CQWW CW Contest. QSL via homecall.
EY11, TAJIKISTAN. The Tajik Amateur Radio
League is planning to use the special callsign EY11OO (EY11 Oscar
Oscar) to celebrate the 1100th anniversary of the first
Tajiks-State of Samanids which was found by Ismoili Somoni.
Special activity is planned on all 9 HF bands CW, SSB, RTTY,
PSK31, SSTV through the end of September. QSL via DJ1SKO.
FO0, AUSTRALS AND FRENCH POLYNESIA. Marcel,
ON4QM, is on his way to Tahiti where he will take a boat to
Raivavae (IOTA OC-114) in the Australs group. He expects to be
active as FO0DEH with 100 watts and SSB only around September
17th for at least two weeks, possibly even 2 months. Depending on
transportation facilities, he may also travel to OC-131 and/or
OC-051. IOTA OC-051 is Rapa Island and also belongs to the
Australs group for DXCC credit. He will use an Icom IC-706 and a
Cushcraft R-6000 vertical. Additionally, he may take an 80 meters
dipole with him to erect in between some coconut trees if there

FP, ST. PIERRE AND MIQUELON. Henry/KE1AC and
Tony/LA9VDA will be active as FP/LA9VDA from October 20th to
November 2nd. Activity will be on 160-6 meters. Modes to be used
will be CW, SSB, RTTY and SSTV. They will try to get a FP5
callsign for the CQWW SSB contest. QSL via LA9VDA with SASE to:

HS0, THAILAND. Don, G3VFU (ex-A92BE and
A45XU), has been here since May on a work assignment (length of
stay is unknown) and has been active as HS0/G3VFU from a friend's
station (TS-950s and a TL-922 linear). He is currently trying to
get his own station approved by the authorities. Meanwhile, Don
will try to be active once a week from his friend's QTH. Check
14200 kHz between 1330 and 1500z. QSL via W3HNK.
IOTA NEWS...
NA-046. Gregg, VE3ZZ, will be active
from the island of Martha's Vineyard, Mass. (USI MA-005S)
from September 26th to October 6th. He will be looking
particularly for Europe and Asia on normal IOTA
frequencies. In addition, a short operation from
Chappaquiddick Island (NA-046 and USI MA-004S) is planned
for either October 2nd or 3rd, if there is interest. QSL

NA-148. Tony/WF1N and Lou/W1DIG will be
on the Isles of Shoals, Appledore Island, September
17-20th, starting around 1900z Friday and ending about
1200z Monday. Operations will be on 20, 15 and 10 meters,
on/near the usual IOTA frequencies, SSB. QSL direct

LIGHTHOUSE ACTIVITY. David, CX5ABY, President
of Radio Apoyo Castillos, located in Castillos city in Uruguay,
reports that they have planned to activate two ligthouses, the
Polonio Ligthouse and La Paloma ligthouse.
Times/Days/Callsigns/QSL information were not given, but keep a
look out for them.
OH0, ALAND ISLAND. Jukka, OH6LI, informs OPDX
to look for OH0V to participate in the Scandinavian Activity
Contest (SAC), CW, September 18-19th, 1200-1200z) in a
Multi-Multi category with the youngest M/M team ever. The average
age is 28 years. Suggested frequencies will be: 3507, 3527, 7007,
7027, 14027, 21027 and 28027. Various callsign will be available
outside the contest hours mainly on WARC bands. QSL via
bureau/OH4JLV or Antti Tiittala, Akselinkatu 14A, 57130

QSL INFO AND NEWS...
NEW ZIP. NIKOLAY, UX0FF, reports that he
will still be active with his personal special contest
callsigns ER0F (from MOLDOVA) and EO6F (from UKRAINE).
However, September 1st he will have a new ZIP code.

MORE TO ADD ON NEW ZIP. Dima/UT5RP Post
system has changed the ZIPs in their country. He mentions
hams in the Odessa and Region areas need help to get the
word out to change databases and callbook addresses.
EA2BUF/3 was active from Medas Islands
(IOTA EU-078) in August. QSL EA2BUF/3 via EA2BUF.
Mac, W3HC, reports new routes for
BA1DU/7 and RA3OU go to W3HC.....
Frank Smith, AH0W/OH2LVG, reports that
they are still pumping out lots of QSLs for 3B9R with at
least 10,000 to go. They appreciate the nice compliments
on the card as well as everyone's patience. Also, he
would like to request that if you haven't requested your
card yet, please do so soon. They would like to receive
all card requests by October 31st, if possible for 3B9R
as well as any outstanding requests for AH4/AH0W,
K7K-Kure and K4M-Midway.
Michael Bondarev, UA6LU, President of
Rostov-on-Don region radioclub (FCC), states, "....
that license of RV6LAH is not released to anybody.
Stations EP3LAH, EP/RA6LGM (via RV6LAH) and EK1X (via
RV6LAH) are pirates. PLEASE do not make QSOs and do not
send QSLs! Save your money!"
MORE ON VK POSTAGE RATES. Mike, VK6HD,
provides OPDX with the following: Beginning October 4th,
airmail to the USA...now $1.05 goes up to $1.50. The new
rates are: Asia/Pacific $1.00 and the rest of the world
$1.50. On the plus side, postcards can be sent world-wide
for $1.00...provided there is only one card. Also the new
$1.50 rate allows an increased weight up to 50 grams. One
IRC will still buy one unit of airmail postage...$1.50.
V2, ANTIGUA AND BARBUDA. Look for
John/K3TEJ/V26KW and Bud/AA3B/V26K to be active from November
23-30th from Antiqua. They will participate in the CQWW CW
Contest using the callsign V26K. QSL V26K to AA3B, and QSL V26KW
to K3TEJ.
V3, BELIZE. Several members of the Delta DX
Association will again activate Ambergris Caye (NA-073) on
October 7-12th. Returning operators are Mike/W5ZPA (V31MP),
Wondy/K5KR (V31KR), and Stan/W5JYK (V31YK), joined by Don/W5FKX
(V31KX). Plans are to operate 80-10 meters on CW, SSB and RTTY,
with a possibility of some 6 meter activity as well. An attempt
will also be made to activate one of the Turneffe Islands
(NA-123), if transportation can be arranged. QSL via home
callsign.
VK8, CROKER AND MELVILLE ISLANDS (Update on Rare IOTA
DXpedition). Stuart, VK8NSB, reports that Peter, ZL1HN
(Extra class operator), will be joining the DXpedition team of
Stuart/VK8NSB, Peter/VK8PDG and Allan/VK2NNN to IOTAs OC-173 and
OC-229. This will mean that they will be on all bands (80-10
meters). They plan to have 4 HF stations running with two
stations 24 hours. Modes that will be used will be
SSB/CW/RTTY/SSTV and possibly some others. QSL via VK9NS. Please

VP5, TURKS AND CAICOS ISLANDS. Chris/HB9CYV
and Martin/HB9CYN will be active next from North Caicos from
September 16-26th, as VP5/HB9CYV and VP5/HB9CYN. Activity will be
160-10 meters CW/SSB using a 1kW amp into Delta Loops,
Inverted-Vee and beam antennas. QSL via home callsigns (bureau or
direct). QSL policy for direct requests:
- Europe: at least 1 USD or 1 IRC
- Outside Europe: at least 2 USD or 2 IRC
- QSLs for requests with not enough return postage will
be sent via bureau
- SAE required

W5 DX BASH. This event will be held on
October 8-9th at Lake Buchanan in Texas. Bryan/W5KFT reports to
OPDX that there will be lots of good programs, including remote
operation of a station using the new Kachina computer radio, new
Alpha products demo by John/W0UN, and demo set up for actual
operation of the new Ten-Tec Pegasus computer radio. All the
registration and other information is on the "W5 DX

XE, MEXICO. Bela, N8SHZ, will be active
sometime this month until mid- December as XE1/N8SHZ. His
activity will be on most bands using a FT-100, DX70T and various
antennas. QSL via homecall.
XU, CAMBODIA. Andy, G4ZVJ, reports to us that
he will be in Cambodia from September 15th for approx. 10 days.
He has applied for an XU licence, but his callsign is unknown
yet. Activity will be CW only and QSL via G4ZVJ. After XU, he
will be active as DU3/G4ZVJ and HS0/G4ZVJ up to October 6th.
ZD8V QRT. Paul, ZD8V/KF4OOX, reported to OPDX
on Friday: "ZD8V is now permanent QRT. I have done 2860 QSOs
and 674 QSLs are done so far. I have worked 134 countries. I may
not have been the most active ZD8 but I think I did a fare job. I
have tried to work as best as I could. I know in the face of some
of the other DXepeditions these totals are very small but I was
not on a DXpedition I was here to work. And work I did. I also
did as much hamming as I could...... Well So long from Ascension

ZK2, NIUE. Ater his A35ZL Tonga operation
Manfred, DJ7RJ, will make a short trip to here from October
7-14th. This callsign is not known yet. QSL via bureau or direct
