3W6, VIETNAM. "The 59(9) DXReport"
reports that Mike, N0ODK, will be active November 15-29th as
3W6DK. His activity will be mostly 20 and 15 meters SSB. QSL via
N0ODK.
3XY, GUINEA. Denis, VE2DPS, will be active
here until December 22nd as 3XY2D. His activity has been mostly
on 10 and 20 meters. Check above 28500 and around 14190 kHz. He
will be using a FT-840 and G5RV antenna. QSL via his home
callsign VE2DPS.
4U1VIC, VIENNA INTERNATIONAL CENTRE. Jun,
JH4RHF, provides the following schedule for 4U1VIC contest
activities: CQWW SSB Contest - Multi/Single effort by operators
DL2OBF, RRDXA and possibly others; CQWW CW Contest - Multi/Single
effort by operators DL6RDR, BCC and possibly others; ARRL 10
Meters Contest - Multi/Single effort by operators VE3IAY and
JH4RHF; and CQ WPX SSB Contest - possibly Multi/Single effort by
operator OE8CIQ and possibly others. By the way, this station
counts as Austria for DXCC. QSL all contacts via the OE bureau or
CBA.
CN8, MOROCCO (Update). Dieter, DF4RD, issued
a huge press release by Ben, DL6FBL, to remind everyone that the
members of the Bavarian Contest Club (BCC) are forming a
Multi/Multi team to participate in the upcoming CQWWDX Contests
from Morocco. CN8WW will have separate stations on all six bands
for the complete 48 hours of both contests. Activity will be on
all bands including 160 meters for both contests. The members of
the SSB team are (16 people, alphabetically): DJ5IW, DK2OY,
DK5WL, DK6WL, DK7YY, DL1MFL, DL2NBU, DL4MCF, DL6FBL, DL6RAI,
DL8OH, DL8WPX, DL9NEI, OE2LCM, OE2MON, and OE2VEL. The current
members listed of the CW team are (alphabetically): DK1BT, DK2OY,
DK8LV, DK9IP, DL2MEH, DL3DXX, DL3NCI, DL6FBL, DL6LAU, DL8WPX,
S51TA, and maybe some more OPs. The complete press release will
be sent to all OPDX InterNet Subscribers as an additional
bulletin.
DXCC BACKLOG. It has been reported to OPDX by
Bob, W8BT, that Bill Moore, NC1L, from the DXCC Desk, states in
doing the processing of DXCC sub- missions, "We are
currently experiencing a backlog in excess of 8 weeks.."
EA8, CANARY ISLANDS. Martti, OH2BH, reports
that the EA8BH will be active in the CQWW SSB Contest. From a
press release he states the following: "The EA8BH contest
site has been re-built to take full advantage of the improved
radio propagation. This year, a dual radio station (using two
Yaesu FT1000MP transceivers) will be launched into battle, again
employing multiple direction beaming with power split concept.
Your observation reports will again be valuable in helping
determine the signal's penetration throughout the world. All
reports and QSOs will be confirmed with a folded Yaesu-sponsored
QSL card describing the equipment and technology used this year.

EA8/V2/ZB, CANARY ISLANDS/ANTIGUA/GILBRALTAR.
Dave Clark, W8DO, informs OPDX that he will be active from
Gilbraltar (ZB2) October 19th through November 1st. His operation
will then move to the Canary Islands (EA8) for the first two
weeks in Novmember, followed by a transatlantic sail aboard the
sloop "Kiwi" to Antigua (V2). Dave will be active on
FISTS frequencies of 7058, 14058 and 21058 kHz. QSL via the FISTS
bureau or home callsign.
EIDXA NEW OFFICERS FOR 2000. The Eastern Iowa

EUROPE TRIP (EA, EA9 and ZB2). Rick, NE8Z,
informs OPDX that he will be traveling and operating from the
following places. Activity will be on CW/SSB on the HF bands,
including the WARC bands. Rick's schedule is as follows:
Spain - EA/NE8Z/Mobile from October 23-26th and the
29-30th
Gibraltar - ZB2/NE8Z from October 26-27th
Ceuta & Melilla - EA9/NE8Z from Oct 27-28th

FO0, CLIPPERTON. It has been reported that a
Web site for the upcoming March 2000 DXpedition to Clipperton

HB0, LIECHTENSTEIN. Kazik/DL2SBY and
Henry/SP2FOV will be active here October 29th through November
7th. They will be active on 160-10 meters including the WARC
bands on CW/SSB/RTTY using the callsigns HB0/DL2SBY and
HB0/SP2FOV. Equipment will be: 2 Trx, 2 PA, Vertical, Delta Loop
and a Quad. QSL via home call.
INTERESTING CALLSIGN OF THE WEEK. GM3WIL,
GM0SEI and GM0DEQ were operating from Horse Island (IOSA CL13) on
Sunday (October 17th) using the callsign GB2NAG.
IOTA NEWS...
AF-018. The Pantelleria Contest Team
will once again travel to Pantelleria Island (CQWW zone
33, African Italy, IIA:TP-01) for this year's CQWW SSB
Contest at the end of October. They will use the callsign
IH9P. The team will be more competitive than last year's
5th in the world Multi/Multi effort with the addition of
a few new operators and new antenna systems. The team
will be arriving on the island on the October 24th and
should be testing the station's installations by
Thursday. This year's team members include IT9ZGY,
IN3QBR, W1NA, ZS6NW, IK8ETA, WA7EQW, IT9BLB, KR7X, ZS6EZ,
IT9WPO, I8QLS, OL5Y, IT9VDQ, and K7FL. This year's
operation looks to be an all FT-1000 MP effort with
assorted amplifiers. The team looks forward to being your
zone 33 multiplier for the contest and working all of you

AF-019. It has been announced that the
planned IG9A expedition to Lampedusa Island for the CQWW
DX Phone Contest by Marconi Contest Club will be held
under the patronage of the Italian Ministry of
Communications and the Lampedusa Municipality. All the
stations will have beam antennas and special receive
antennas. To make a QSO with IG9A on five or six bands
will be easy from all over Europe, Africa, Asia and North
America The club has set the 160, 80 and 40 meters world
records from there. They will send a QSL for each QSO
(QSL via I2MQP); all the stations that make a QSO on five
bands (four for non Europeans) will receive a special
certificate. All the stations that make a QSO on six
bands (five for non Europeans) will receive a special
CD-ROM with images, films, and audio files of pile-ups
and, if possible, an audio file of their QSO with IG9A.
All the stations that arrange and work a schedule with
IG9A, if the first worked on that band from that country
or zone, will receive a very nice cap with their logo
(the turtle caretta-caretta on the Lampedusa Island

KH0, MARIANA. By the time you read this,
members of the Northern Kyushu DX Club should be active. Members
Asa, JA6AGA (KH0/AF4IN), and Tony, JA6CNL (KH0N), will be active
on all bands mostly on CW. QSLs via home callsign or via Northern
Kyushu DX Club QSL Bureau: P.O. Box 11, Yawata, 805-8691 Japan.
MM, SCOTLAND. Leo, W3LEO, will be active from
Portpatrick in southwest Scotland from October 21st to November
12th. However, Leo states that this is a vacation not a
DXpedition and "time on the air will depend on the antennas,
on propagation, and on when the pubs are open, HI....." He
will use the callsign MM/W3LEO and plans to be in the CQWW SSB
Contest at least on the Saturday. Outside of the contest, look
for him on 17 meters SSB or 10 SSB (if 10 meters stays open). He
will use an Icom 706 (100 watts]) with a 10/15/20 meter vertical
and a 17-meter dipole. QSL via his CBA (with SASE) or bureau.
PJ4, BONAIRE. Doug, N6RT, reports that the
Bonaire CQWW crew from PJ9B will be using the callsign PJ4B from
now on. The PJ9B callsign will no longer be used. Please pay
special attention to this when logging them this year.
QSL INFO AND NEWS...
Mal, VK6LC, reports that he is now the
"BUREAU QSL Manager" for the VK9RS Rowley
Shoals DXpedition. All direct requests must go via I1HYW.

5H3RK QSLS. Ralph, 5H2RK, reports that
he has lost (did explain) some 500-600 QSLs in 9J-land at
the "Intercontinental" in Lusake a few months
ago. You may want to QSL again.
SPECIAL EVENT. To mark the occasion of the
125th anniversary of Guglielmo Marconi's birth, the Marconi Radio
Club will operate special event station W1AA/CC on 20, 17, 15,
and 10-meter SSB, Friday, October 22, approximately 1400-2000z.
Suggested frequencies: 14280, 18140, 21280, and 28480 kHz.
Activity will be from the location of the former 1903 Marconi
Transatlantic station at Cape Cod National Seashore on Cape Cod,
Massachusetts, U.S.A. (Marconi's original transatlantic
transmission call sign in 1903 was "CC"). The Comitato
Tricolore of New England will dedicate a monument that day (at
1530z) to honor Guglielmo Marconi, and Marconi's daughter
(Princess Elettra Marconi) is scheduled to be present. Princess
Elettra will be presented with a plaque by the Marconi Radio Club
making her an Honorary President of The Marconi Radio Club.
SPECIAL EVENT. The Greater Norwalk Amateur
Radio Club will be operating W1NLK from Sherwood Island State
Park in Westport, CT, on November 14th, in celebration of the
first "Fun Fly Day". Club members and their families
will be bringing their model planes, rockets and kites to fly.
The public is invited to join in the festivities and see
demonstration of HF, VHF and ATV. However, the highlight of the
"Fun Fly Day" will be their kite-borne RLW (really long
wire) antenna. Operation will be in the general portion of 40
meters (7.250+/-) and 20 meters (14.230 +/-). Operations will
commence between 1500-1600z and last until 2000z. A certificate
and QSL card will be available. For their QSL, send a letter size
SASE please (DX 1 IRC or 1 USD). For the certificate and the QSL,
send a 9x12 SASE (DX 2 IRC or 2 USD). A 1 USD donation for the
certificate to defray printing costs is appreciated but not

VK9, LORD HOWE ISLAND. Dee, W1HEO, is
currently in Austrailia and is getting ready to operate from Lord
Howe Island for five days starting Octber 24th. He was issued the
callsign VK9LM and will be on 20 and 15 meter SSB and CW.
Suggested frequencies to check would be: CW - 14030 and 21030
kHz; SSB - 14185 and 21185 (21230) kHz. QSL via W1HEO.
VP2, MONTSERRAT. Chris, DL5NAM, from the
Bavarian Contest Club (BCC), reports that they (also DL9NDS,
DL7NFK) have just received the callsign VP2MCS to be used in thw
CQWW SSB Contest as a Multi/Single. The team will be active on
the air with 3 stations from October 25th through November 9th.
Activity will be on 160-6 meters, mostly on SSB, Pactor and
PSK31. QSL via DL5NAM.
VP2, MONTSERRAT (Update). John, K3TEJ,
reports that the callsign VP2MHJ was issued to him in error and
the correct callsign that he will be using from Montserrat will
be VP2MKW. He will be active from November 22-25th.
VP5, TURKS & CAICOS ISLANDS. Operators
N0AT, N0KK, W5WW and N5QQ will operate from North Caicos Island
as VP5R during the CQWW SSB Contest as a Multi/Single entry.
Outside of the contest operators will sign VP5/homecall. All QSLs
via operators homecall CBA. VP5R QSLs go to N0KK or N0AT via CBA.
YASME AWARD ADDRESS. Wayne Mills, N7NG,
President of the Yasme Foundation, reports the following:
"All correspondence regarding the Yasme Award, including the
submission of applications should go to the following address.
This new address was announced previously, but several sites
still post the old address." The new address is: Randy

ZONE 2 ACTIVATED (Lighthouse Alert).
Gus/VO1MP, Dan/VO1MX and Chris/VE3FU are planning to be in
Labrador for the CQWW SSB Contest this month. They will be
operating with their own calls (see below) until the contest and
use the callsign VO2CQ during the contest. They will be active on
most bands and both SSB and CW until contest time. QSL routes
(bureau or direct): VO2CQ and VO2AC via VE3FU; VO2ZZ via VO1HE.
The site they will be operating from is the Point Amour
lighthouse, the tallest lighthouse in Atlantic Canada. It's
located on the southern shore of Labrador. Check out the
