everything is properly done. Jim has been helping Yonten to get

IOTA NEWS...
AF-NEW. The Italian team composed of
I8IYW, IK8UHA, IK8VRH, IK7XIV, IZ7ATN, IZ0CKJ and IS0JMA
plan to activate Giftun Island, an Egyptian island in the
South Red Sea Group. The callsign will be SU9DX and the
activity will take place in May 2000. This will be a new
IOTA. However, the team is looking for sponsors to help
offset the estimated cost of 10,000 USD for their 5 day
operation. If they succeeded in retrieving enough funds,
they may also activate Tawila Island, also an Egyptian
island in the North Red Sea Group (Also a new IOTA). The
QSL Manager will be IK8UHA: Antonio Barbato, PO Box 5039,
80144 Naples, Italy. For more information, sent E-mail to
su9dx@qsl.net or check
the Web page: http://www.qsl.net/su9dx.

KP1, DESECHEO. Harry, W8KKF, reports that
over the past few months he has attempted to obtain a landing
permit for Desecheo and has been turned down. He has all but
given up in any further attempts. However, after several amateurs
recently inquired Harry about the island, Harry has made one last
attempt by sending a rather long E-mail to the Vice President of
the United States. Harry feels others should do the same if they
want KP1 on the air. If you are interested in doing the same, you
can send a message (using the Web site below) in your own words
requesting consideration to issuing a landing permit, and your
desire to make amateur radio contacts with stations on the
island. Harry states, "Do try to keep your message rather
short. You might mention your state or Country in the message. A
very large number of messages, might just be what is
needed." To send a message to the Vice President, go to the
Web page: http://www.whitehouse.gov/WH/Mail/html/Mail_Vice_President.html.
The above line should take you right to the form. You have to
fill in a few blanks and put in your message.
LAST TWO CRACKDOWNS. Reports from
"Newsline" and "QRZ DX" indicate that the
practice of only using the last two letters of your callsign
while calling on a net or working DX "is not legal under
Part 97" as per FCC Enforcement Chief Riley Hollingsworth.
The FCC "is" going to crack down on anyone not IDing
according to the rules. This current decision will surely effect
nets, DXing and contesting "BIG TIME".
QSL INFO AND NEWS...
Leif, SM0BFJ, QSL Manager for 9U5D,
states that those who request QSLs for 9U5D and enclose
IRC for return postage must be aware that the IRC must be
postmarked at their post office. Otherwise, it is not
valid at the Swedish post office.
QSL P40R via NK4U. Allan, N4KU (not
NK4U), reports that since the CQWW SSB Contest he has
been receiving a couple of cards and SASES destined for
P40R. The problem is that he is NOT the manager for P40R.
P40R's QSL Manager is NK4U not N4KU! The few that he has
received have been passed on to NK4U.

T31, KANTON ISLAND. Lech, LA7MFA, reports a
correction to Ueata's callsign which is T31UT (not T31UA), and
his name is Ueata Tetabo. He goes on and states that he has had
skeds with Ueata on 40/20/15m SSB and feels Ueata is making very
good progress and will be able to handle QSOs on his own very
shortly. Times/frequencies were not provided and no QSNs were not
reported on the cluster network. Hopefully, they will be
forthcoming.

Valery Zhilyaev, P.O.Box 7, Kostanay, 458000, KAZAKHSTAN.
V7, KWAJALEIN ISLAND. Bruce, AC4G, signing as
V73CW from here, reports to OPDX that he is active on all bands
160-6 meters and also on the satellites. He was heard this past
weekend on 6/10/12/15 meters at various times mainly on CW, but
there was some SSB. Bruce want to tell OPDX readers to only QSL
directly to the following address: Bruce Smith, PO Box 1436, APO,
AP 96555 USA. He states that his AC4G mail was being forwarded,
but the postmaster is going to discontinue this. So the AC4G
address is no longer any good. Bruce will be on Kwajalein Island
for a year and a half.
XV7, VIETNAM. Rolf, SM5MX, is about to travel
from Tokyo, his present QTH, to Hanoi to re-activate his callsign
XV7SW from November 25th to December 3rd. Look for Rolf to take
part in the CQWW CW Contest. He is now the only remaining XV
station on CW, since only 3W calls are issued nowadays. QSL via
SM3CXS as usual.
XX9, MACAU. Ulf, SM0GNU, will be active from
Macau as XX9TDX from November 25th through December 2nd. He will
also be active in the CQWW CW Contest as an all bands low power
(100w) entry. QSL via SM0GNU.

will be active once again as ZD8A from November 15th through
November 30th. Operations are planned for all bands including the
WARC bands prior to the CQWW CW DX Contest. Glenn will also

Burnham Drive, San Diego, CA 92111. All previous ZD8A and ZD88A
operations are being confirmed by N6CW, and all direct cards
should be in the mail by the end of the month. Do not resubmit
QSLs previously sent to K6NA.
