10 METER BEACON. The N7GSU/BCN beacon on
28.2825 MHZ is now off the air. It has be replaced by a new
machine now up and running on 28.292 MHz. Info is as follows:
N7GSU/BCN running 250MW into a vertical antenna continously from
McMinnville, OR (CN85if). Send signal reports to N7GSU direct or
via E-mail to: robin@n7gsu.com
Please enter the changes to your listing.
4W, EAST TIMOR. Trey, 4W/N5KO (one of the
operators from the TX0CI operation) was active last week and
operating from the "Turismo Hotel." His activity seems
too be mainly on 15 meters CW and RTTY. However, there have been
no QSNs reported since 1416z April 7th. May have gone QRT. QSL
via OH2BN. Probably the most active station here is Antonio,
4W6GH. He can usually be found on 15 meters somewhere
around/above 21300 kHz, but has also been heard on 80/17/12
meters. QSL via CT1EGH. Jose, 4W6EB, has been active too but it
seems mainly on 17/12 meters. Check between 1500 and 1700z. QSL
via CT1EEB (ONLY THE CBA!). Thor, 4W6MM, continues to be active
mainly on 20/15 meters CW between 1130 and 1530z. However, there
has been "some" SSB active. See QSL INFO AND NEWS
below. Bernie, W3UR, editor of "The Daily DX", is back
home now after his operation as 4W/W3UR and reports that he made
9200 QSOs. More details will be available later. Remember to QSL
via OH2BN.
9M2, WEST MALAYSIA. "The 59(9)
DXReport" reports that Richard, PA0RRS, will be active until
April 27th, hopefully as 9M2/PA0RRS. QSL via homecall.
BQ9, PRATAS ISLAND. The BQ9P DXpedition is
now active through April 12th. Look for this operation to be
active about almost everywhere 24 hours a day. Remember to QSL
via KU9C. (Please refer to OPDX.453)
BX, TAIWAN. BX4AF has been quite active on
RTTY on 10102 and 21088 KHz after 1130z for a few hours and again
after 0000z.
D2, ANGOLA. Fernando, EA4BB, informs OPDX
that he is going back to Angola next week. He hopes to start
operating as soon as possible with his callsign, D2BB. He guesses
that he will remain there for one year. He will be taking with
him his old Drake TR7A and a 6 element yagi, together with some
wire to make dipoles. This time he will try harder on 40, 80 and
160 meters, if the QTH conditions permit. The QSL route is
through his good friend Joe, W3HNK.
FH, MAYOTTE. Christian, FH/TU5AX, is looking
for any QSOs on 6 meters. The "LNDX" states that he
listens on 50.110 MHz starting around 1450z. He can also be heard
sometimes on 14260 khz after 0330z and check 10 meters after
1200z between 28470 and 28500 kHz.
FM, MARTINIQUE. Jacques, F6BUM, will be
active as FM/F6BUM from April 27th through May 4th.
FR5, REUNION ISLAND. Matthieu, F5PED, has
been active as FR5DC since November. He is very active on 80-10
meters CW. He plans to be on 160 meters next winter. The latest
spots show that he was on 24898 kHz at 1520z.

QSL INFO AND NEWS...
4W6MM QSL ROUTE. Thor, 4W6MM (TF1MM),
has announced this week that he plans to open a POB in
Darwin to handle the QSLs, but it will be a couple of
weeks before he can go there. In the meantime, he
suggests to please be patient and he will announce the
QSL route when it is ready. Currently, Thor is working
with the UN mission. He works 12 hours a day and 7 days a
week, and his operating is done in his spare time. Thor
has been in East Timor since May 1999. He adds that he
could be here for a long time, but then again he could be
sent to another mission within 24 hours notice. Please DO
NOT send any mail to his POB 90 in Hveragerdi. Thor sold
his house several years ago, and the post office does not
forward mail to him. If you want, you can QSL via the TF
bureau. Thor states that he visits Iceland (TF) every 2-4
years and will pick up the cards then :)
The TX0DX HF log database can now be
searched automatically via E-mail! Simply send a message
to " tx0dx-log@n4gn.com
" with your callsign at the beginning of the SUBJECT
line of the message (the BODY of the E-mail is ignored).
Note that you can only check one call at a time. If you
find a discrepancy that you believe might be due to an
error in the log database, please report the details to tx0dx-help@n4gn.com
and someone will manually research it.
Paul, F8PX, has received some card for
TK6PX and he doesn't know anything about this station. He
is NOT the QSL Manager.
Jim Smith, VK9NS, recently received an
E-mail from Kimio, JA9BOH, who has operated from the
Japanese Antarctic Base, Suyowa Station, on Ongul Island
during his participation in the 40th Japanese Antarctic
Research Expedition. This is IOTA AN-015 - a very rare
catch. However, Kimio's, JA9BOH, activity from Ongul
Island signing 8J1RL took place during the period of
March 21, 1998 and January 31, 2000. He has made a total
of 24,000 QSOs. QSLs for his operation are to go to his
home callsign direct or via the JARL Bureau. He has just
returned home on the March 25th, after 15 months on
Ongul, and of course found many requests for QSL cards
awaiting his attention. However, he has found that quite
a large number of them are for the current operator of
8J1RL. Nothing can be done to these QSL cards until after
March 2001 when the current operator is due to return
home. The current operator of 8J1RL is Takumi, JG3PLH,
who prefers CW rather than SSB. The correct mailing
address for Takumi is: Takumi Kondoh, JG3PLH, 1-23
Shinke- cho, Sakai City, Osaka 599-8232 Japan. DO NOT
send QSL cards to Kimio, JA9BOH, for QSOs with 8J1RL made
after the 1st February 2000. The current JA Group on
Ongul Island forms the 41st Japanese Antarctic Research
Expedition on the Syowa Station. Lastly, Kumio, JA9BOH,
notes that many stations are QSLing direct to him with no
return postage (often no SAE either), and this makes
things difficult for him. Also, he comments on the SMALL
envelopes being used by VK and UK stations which are not
big enough. Jim, VK9NS, thinks Kumio is using a standard
JA QSL card format - IE Postcard Size.
Laurie Pritchard, VK4BLE, informs OPDX
that she has retired as the WIAQ QSL Bureau Manager and
requests to please not send anymore QSL cards directly to
her as they will be forwarded to the WIAQ office. All QSL
cards are to be sent directly to: WIAQ QSL BUREAU, GPO
Box 638, Brisbane, 4001. Laurie wishes to thank everybody
who has helped her out over the past 6 years as bureau
manager. She will be continuing to print QSL Cards for
Amateurs, and do not hesitate to contact her via the
phone at: 07 3284 8859 (if you need any printing done)
NEED A QSL MANAGER? Dave Yonts, KB5UOK,
states that he is wants to be a Stateside QSL Manager for
any DX station. If you or someone you know is in need of
one, please contact Dave at: kb5uok@arrl.net.
SPECIAL EVENT. Look for special event
station 3Z0MM to be active from Szprotawa now through
June 1st. Details were not provided as to why this
station is active (WFWL). QSL via bureau or direct to:
SP3KFH Radioklub LOK, ul. Warszawska 1A, 67-300
SZPROTAWA, POLAND
SPECIAL EVENT/PREFIX
(More Brazilian Event Activity) Rubens,
PY2KQ, informs OPDX that he has received the special
callsign "PP500A" (PAPA, PAPA, FIVE HUNDRED,
ALPHA), as part of the commemorative events celebrating
the 500th anniversary of Brazil's discovery by Portuguese
navigators. He will be operating this special callsign
until April 30th. Activities will take place on HF bands,
especially on 10 meter, looking for 10-10 members. QSL
must be sent to PY2KQ either via the Bureau or direct to:
Rubens Galdino F. de Carvalho Filho, P.O. Box 348,
13330-970 - Indaiatuba - SP - BRAZIL. E-mail: py2kq@arrl.net.
Operators from the "Parobe Technical
School" are going to activate the special
callsign ZX3D in the upcoming April 21, 22 and 23rd,
celebration of the 500th anniversary of Brazil's
discovery by Pedro Alvares Cabral, a former Portuguese
sailor, back in 1500. The list of opertors are:
PY3AFS - Flavio CW
PY3KHZ - Koetz RTTY
PY3PAZ - Paul CW
PY3YY - Andy RTTY
PY3MM - Miguel SSB
DL7AXD - Christoph CW
PY3BZA - Eumar SSB
HC1NG - Alex SSB
PY3ACC - Christensen SSB
LW3TMR - Tiago SSB
PY3FOX - Christian SSB
WA1FOX - Richard RTTY
The operation will take place on those dates from the
"Parobe Technical School". The Ham club there
was created as a department of this important and
traditional Technical School located in Porto Alegre city
and placed about 1400 km south from Rio de Janeiro,
Brazil. They are planning to operate on all bands on HF
and on CW, SSB and RTTY. QSL cards should be via PY3BZA
(manager).
T8, PALAU (K2 QRP Operation!). By the time
you read this, Shige, JA8CCL, will be operating his K2 rig in the
South Pacific as T88CL now through April 13th. He will be on the
"K2 Frequency" 28715 kHz and also 14333 kHz. Also,
there may be other possible DX frequencies. He operates mostly on
SSB, so don't expect much CW.
TT8, CHAD. Jean Luc, F5BAR, is still active
as TT8JLB until July. His activity has been mainly CW on 15/12/10
meters lately. Check 10 and 15 meters after 2200z, sometimes
after 1630z. QSL via F5BAR.
VK9WI, WILLIS ISLAND DXPEDITION (Update).
David, VK4ZEK, informs OPDX that the Bureau of Meterorology has
allowed them to take a 5th operator to Willis Island, so they
will be fully active on 6m VHF. PJ Garden, VK4APG, has joined the
Willis Team. There has been a change to the 6 meter beacon
frequency due to crystal availability. Please note that it has
been changed to 50.0515 MHz. For details check: http://www.qsl.net/vk9wi/1freqs.htm.
David also mentions that thanks to George Taft, W8UVZ, a Battle
Creek Special antenna for 160/80/40 meters has just arrived in
Brisbane. With the help of their 160m expert Nick, VK2ICV
(VK9LX), they are hoping for plenty of 160 action from Willis.
VP6, PITCAIRN ISLAND. Jukka, VP6BR, continues
to be very active. In recent days, QSNs show that he has been
spreading his activity out on 160/80/40/30/20/15/10/6 meters.
Reports indicate that Jukka has logged over 40,000 QSOs. His
activity will continue until the end of April.
ZS31, ELEPHANT ROCK ISLAND. After a small
delay in landing on the island due to bad weather and heavy seas,
the ZS31ER DXpedition came on the air on the morning of April
2nd. However, by the time you read this, the operation will be
over. According to the latest press release, they expected that
most of the equipment would be dismantled on Sunday afternoon and
one transceiver and G5RV antenna would remain operational until
Monday, April 10th. The DXpedition website for updates is at: http://www.qsl.net/zr1dq/zs31er.htm.
