following DX information.
4U1UN, UNITED NATIONS HQ. Fritz, DL4TT, has
informed OPDX that he will be in New York City from July 27th to
August 20th. In this period he will try to operate on several
days from the UN headquarters club station. When these dates are
scheduled, the exact dates will be announced on the
PacketClusters. The mode will be CW and an emphasis will be taken
on working "weak stations". Fritz states, "Please
avoid any dupes. In case you have logged the same band and mode
at an earlier opportunity, give others a chance! As in the past,
QSLing of 4U1UN will not be in the hand of the individual
operator."
4X, ISRAEL. Dave, W5WP, will be here July
2-20th, operating from the QTH of 4X6RD as 4X/W5WP. His initial
operation will be on 10/15/20 meters. If a G5RV can be installed,
his operation will be expanded to include the WARC band and 40/80
meters. Operations will be on SSB, CW and possibly (if he can get
his laptop configured) PSK31. PLEASE NOTE: Dave states that he is
NOT one of the great CW ops; patience will be required!!! This is
an operating vacation, not a DXpedition! Participation in the
IARU contest is planned. All QSLs including SWL will be answered;
direct via CBA with SASE. QSL Bureau is fine. Please DO NOT send
cards to the Israel bureau! Although he is a member of the IARC,
he does not live there. (Also, see "IOTA NEWS...")
5H3US, NEWS RELEASE. Dave Heil, K8MN, active
for the past two years as 5H3US in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, is
pulling the plug on a decade-and-a-half of DXing and contesting
which resulted in over 230,000 QSOs from various spots. Dave and
his Finnish XYL Leila leave for the U.S. on June 16th on a
permanent basis and will spend the next month relaxing at their
rural West Virginia home. Dave promises that a book on his
travels is in the works. The Heils met in 1986 during Dave's
first assignment to Helsinki. They married in Guinea-Bissau in
early 1989. Dave's subsequent Foreign Service assignments took
them to Sierra Leone and Botswana. The couple took a needed break
from Africa from mid-1995 through mid-1998 to return to Finland
over the solar minimum. Dave's ex-calls include OH2 and OH0/K8MN,
J52US, 9L1US, A22MN. He was also a member of the 1986 OH0MD/OJ0
team which featured OH2BH, OH2BAZ, OH0MA, OH0RJ, W6EUF and K8MFO.
QSL manager WA8JOC still holds logs for all of Dave's operations.
5R, MADAGASCAR. The "DX News
Letter" reports that Sigi, DJ4IJ, is working in Madagascar
and hopes to become active sometime between now and June 17th.
Meanwhile, 5R8FU has been active on 20 meters SSB between 1100
and 1330z.
7P8AA LESOTHO DXPEDITION 2000. Hans-Juergen
Bartels, DL1YFF, team leader of the 7P8AA DXpedition to Lesotho
(Please refer to OPDX.457), wants to remind everyone that the
7P8AA DXpedition will take place in July. They will leave from
Frankfurt July 2nd and return July 23rd. They plan to be on the
air from 160-6 meters in SSB, CW and RTTY. You can see more
information on their Website: http://www.qsl.net/7p8aa.
D4, CAPE VERDE ISLANDS. "The 59(9) DX
Report" reports that Jose, EA8EE, will be active November
6-12th as D44DX. His activity will include 6 meters.
E41, PALESTINE. Jess, KR4OJ, has recently
talked with David, E41/OK1DTP, on June 2nd (on 21335 kHz at
1440z) and David reported that he is working at a school in
Palestine and will be there until July 2001. Jess states that he
looked up David (under OK1DTP) on QRZ.COM (http://www.qrz.com),
and noticed that he had an E-mail address (ok1dtp@hotmail.com). It also
shows a neat picture of his QSL card. Jess dropped him an E-Mail,
and told him that he still needs E41. So, David wrote him back
and set up a sked. David said that he will continue to be
available, on the air (from the school), each Friday, and if
anyone needs E41, drop him an E-Mail and he will set up a sked,
SSB or CW. QSLs are handled by his father, Jiri Lunak, OK1TD, U
Sporky 185, 470 01 Ceska Lipa, Chech Republic. David was spotted
this past weekend on 21020 kHz between 1700 and 1800z.

it.

considerable; contributions of any size to defray the costs of
this DXpedition will be greatly appreciated. Please send yours
to: Tom Harrell, N4XP, 2011 New High Schoals Road, Watkinsville,
GA 30677. They shall continue to man Palmyra Atoll, KH5, over the

opportunities will increase in the near future. QSL all KPDXG
operations to K4TSJ.

The BQ9P 2000 logs are available for
searching via E-mail thanks to Tim, N4GN, who graciously
offered to put the logs up on his web site and has
developed the software to provide the email log
searching. To use this log search, send an E-mail message
to: bq9p-log@n4gn.com.
ONLY put the callsign you wish to search in the
"Subject" line, and NOTHING else on that line.
The callsign must be exactly as you gave it to the BQ9P
operator, for example, KU9C and KU9C/2 will result in two
separate searches, and different results. You will
receive an E-mail shortly with a response to your query.
Please note: If the E-mail you receive does not
correspond to your log, feel free to E-mail Steve, KU9C,
at: ku9c@arrl.net, or
follow the instructions in the E-mail response, which
will be forwarded to him. If you have already submitted
cards, Steve will search the logs for you based on cards
submitted, so there is no need to send an E-mail, it will
be researched automatically. The cards for BQ9P have not
been printed yet; the color photo was just received.
Steve will post an E-mail when cards start to go out.

anyone have a current E-mail address for Vlad? He has
been known in the past to change ISPs. Ron has Vlad's
logs from the 10 meter contest held October 30-31, 1999,
and some sporadic log information before that. He has
answered all the QSL requests - direct and bureau - that
he can, based on the logs that he has. He is holding
several more QSLs and is awaiting for logs and/or contact
confirmation from Vlad. Any help you can give him to get
this message to Vlad would be appreciated. Ron, ND5S,
