EDITOR'S SPECIAL NOTE (by KB8NW): Well, I am
back from Las Vegas (pockets empty) and fighting some kind of
illness (flu) along with attending a weekend "Teamster
Seminar" which made it a little difficult to write this
week's OPDX. However, I did the best I could. I want to thank the
many who continued to send information (you would not believe the
amount of E-mail I received....WOW!). It was hard to
read/sort/delete the information collected. Hopefully, things can
get back to normal next weekend......73
3B8, MAURITIUS. Look for DL7DF and DL7BO to
be active from November 3-17th. No callsigns were mentioned, but
they will operate from 3B8 with one station, a beam and a
vertical for 80 and 160m. QSL via the German QSL bureau DARC to
DL7DF or direct to: Sigi Presch, DL7DF, Wilhelmsmuehlenweg 123,
D-12621 Berlin, Germany.
4W. EAST TIMOR. "The Daily DX"
reported last Friday that Peter, ON6TT, will be active mainly
during his evenings for the next few days as 4W/ON6TT. (He may be
on for the whole day on Sunday.) Peter only operates SSB. QSL via
ON5NT.
4W, EAST TIMOR. The 4W/K7BV East Timor
DXpedition website has been updated with additional information.
The website can be view at: http://www.qth.com/k7bv/timor/.
5B4, CYPRUS. Look for Dez, 5B4/G0DEZ, to be
active until 2003. He seems to like 17 meters CW/SSB. Check
between 1830 and 0300z (sometimes as early as 1430z). He is
hoping to obtain a 5B4 and ZC4 callsign. QSL via G0DEZ.
5V7, TOGO. A German team consisting of DJ7UC,
DL4WK, DL7BO, DL7DF and DL7UFR will be here October 3-9th before
heading to Burkina Faso (see XT2 below). Activity will be on all
HF bands plus 6 meters CW/SSB/RTTY with an emphasis on the low
bands. Their equipment consists of 4 transceivers, 2 linear
amplifiers, 2 beams, a vertical, a 21m high vertical for 160 and
80m and a 5 element beam for 6m. QSL via DL7DF. For more details
and updated information, visit their Web page at: http://www.qsl.net/DL7DF/.
7Q, MALAWI. Allan, G0IAS, informs OPDX that
Les/7Q7LA will be teaming up with Harry/7Q7HB. Harry at the
moment is sending the first ever SSTV pictures out of Malawi from
the "Club Makakola" on the South West shore of the
lake. There is a possibility of a "get together" of ALL
the hams currently operating from Malawi (7Q7DC, 7Q7JL, 7Q7BW,
7Q7BX and perhaps 7Q7RM.... if he is up to it) because they are
all heading to the lakeshore. More details are supposed to be
forthcoming.
8Q, MALDIVES. Roberto, EA4DX, informs OPDX
that after two years of touring the Pacific (3D2DX 1998 and T24DX
1999), he will return to the Maldives were he operated in 1997 as
8Q7XX. He will use the same callsign, but his main targets for
this operation will be the U.S. on the higher bands and EU and JA
on the lower bands where 8Q7 is most needed. This trip is
entirely devoted to radio, he states, so although his operation
will be focused on the above, other continents and bands will not
be unattended. Look for 8Q7XX between August 31st and September
11th on all bands 80-10 meters including the WARCs on the usual
SSB DX frequencies. Equipment includes Yagis for 10-12-15-17-20
meters and a vertical for 40-80 meters, plus 1 kw linear. QSL via
EA4DX (Callbook, QRZ or HAMCALL addresses OK). Log search on the
Web after the trip at: http://www.qsl.net/ea4dx.
