3C5, EQUATORIAL GUINEA (Correction). Alan's,
3C5I (not 3C5A as reported in OPDX.501), 6 meter beacon is still
up and active on 50096 kHz. Alan was heard this past weekend on
50110 kHz around 2130z calling CQ. He will leave here in April.
3G, EASTER ISLAND. The 3G0Y group continues
to be very active on all bands and modes. Look for them to go QTH
on March 19th. QSL via DK7YY.
3W, VIETNAM. YL operator Aya, 3W2QAQ, was
heard active on 21040 kHz at 0015z and on 7013 kHz at 1420z. Also
heard was 3W2NY on 21245 between 0430 and 0530z. QSL via JH1MZG.
Hans, 3W2LWS, continues to be very active on 15/20/40 meters CW
between 1900 and 0130z. QSL via WA1LWS.
5U, NIGER. The activity by the Italian group
signing 5U2K and 5U3T should be QRT (March 12th) by the time you
read this.
9M0, SPRATLY. The 9M0M group may have gone
QRT. There were no QSNs reported over the past weekend. Last spot
was on March 9th. QSL via K7XN.
A4, OMAN. Chris, A45XR, has been playing on
RTTY a lot on 40/20/15/10 meters during various times throughout
the day. Check around 80 kHz from the band edge. QSL via P.O.B
2038, CPO 111 Oman.
BQ9, PRATAS ISLAND. The BQ9P group continues
to be very active until March 15th. QSL via KU9C.
H40, TEMOTU PROVINCE (Just One More). Well
known DXer Ron Wright, ZL1AMO, who usually travels/activates many
locations in Pacific, informs OPDX that he will be activating the
Temotu Province (OC-065). He expects to begin operations about
March 21st for 3 weeks. His callsign most likely will be H40RW.
H40 is ranked near 48 on the most wanted list. He will be on
CW/SSB/RTTY with various antennas, but no amp. Ron states that
his linear is too heavy to carry. His liasion during the
operation is via Dick, N6FF, E-mail address: n6ff@tco.net. The QSL will be a
special color card as this will probably be "his last
DXpedition". Ron would like to encourage everyone to QSL
direct to ZL1AMO CallBook address.
HK0, MALPELO ISLAND (Update). Pedro, HK3JJH,
informed OPDX this week that some friends in Japan sent him a new
transceiver, an Icom IC-706. He reported that he will make a two
day trip to Bahia Malaga to ship the equipment to Malpelo on
March 6th. He states now that his next start (heading for
Malpelo) will be April 6th where he will be active for a month.
Pedro will be active only on SSB on all the bands from 80-6
meters in the DX windows +/- or the IOTA frequencies. It was
reported this past week that Carl, N4AA, editor of "QRZ
DX", will be Pedro's QSL Manager. Also, Carl is collecting
donations for Pedro's operation. Please make checks/money orders
payable to "CARL SMITH", and put a notation on the
check that it is for HK0M. Send it to: Carl Smith, POB 249,
Leicester, NC 28748-0279 USA
IOTA NEWS...
AS-NEW. Look for BV9O to be active from
Lan-Yu Island from March 15-19th. An IOTA number has not
been assigned yet and is usually assigned during the
operation. QSL via BV8BC.
AS-056. (Change in plans) Masa, JA6GXK,
will be active from Danjo Archipelago (Meshima Island),
April 10-20th (March 21-30th was cancelled). This is not

via F5SGI, direct or via REF French National Bureau.
EU-038. Once again the UBA section
"NOK" will travel to Texel Island to take part
in the 2001 IOTA Contest. During the last 2 years they
were active using the callsign PA6TEX, but this year they
are trying to apply for a shorter callsign and special
prefix (PF,PC,PG), which they hope will satisfy prefix
and IOTA hunters. As soon as they can, they will inform
us of the callsign. Activity will be before and during
the contest on all bands/modes. QSL via ON4ALW: Ronald
"Ron" Van Aken,
Kapelstraat 5, 2330 Merksplas, Belgium (or via UBA

QSL INFO AND NEWS...
NOT THE MANAGER. John, K4BAI, continues
to receive requests for 8P5A QSLs, however, he is NOT the
QSL Manger for 8P5A. The correct route is Tom, W2SC.
There are several on-line databases that STILL show K4BAI
as the 8P5A QSL Manager, please correct your databases.
However, John, K4BAI, is the QSL Manager for 8P9HR, 8P9HT
and 8P9Z.
NOT THE MANAGER. Remember, the QSL
Manager for D68C is G3SWH, not G3SXW.
PLEASE NOTE: Bob, N2OO, reports that
"ALL QSLS FOR 9M6AAC MUST GO VIA N2OO." There
have been reports that G4ZVJ was operating from 9M6AAC
and to QSL to his home call. This is WRONG. Please make
the note. All QSLs for 9M6AAC will be via N2OO only.
The QSL Manager for CQ1CV is CT1ETE via
the bureau or direct to: P.O.BOX 1026 - 4811-908
GUIMARAES - PORTUGAL
Leo, CX3AL, wants to remind the DX
community that 1 USD does not cover the postal rate in
Uruguay. The Uruguayan Post Office has raised their rates
as of December 2000, and the minimun cost of mailing a
letter is 2 USDs. On the other side IRCs are accepted by
the Uruguayan mail. So, to cover the postage you have to
include at least 2 USDs or 1 IRC.
Babs/DL7AFS and Lot/DJ7ZG now active
from the Dominican Republic as HI9/DL7AFS and HI9/DJ7ZG
through March 23rd, will have on-line logs available at: http://www.qsl.net/dl7afs.
The logs from FO/DL5XU (Rangiroa OC-066)
and FO/DL1AWI (Marquesas OC-027) operations are now
available at the following two Web site:
http://dx.qsl.net (N6RT) -or- http://www.radioklub.de/cgcg.
Diego Salom, LU8ADX, was active in last
week's ARRL Contest as AY8A. He states to QSL via LU8ADX
via the Bureau or direct to: Box 373, (1412) Buenos
Aires, Argentina. Do NOT use the callbook address.
SPECIAL EVENT (50 YEARS FOR VRZA). Wim Visch,
PA3BIZ, Vice President of the VRZA, informs OPDX that "this
year the V.R.Z.A. ( Dutch Amateur Radio Society ) celebrates its
50th aniversary. For this occasion a special award will be
issued. To qualify for this award, one needs to contact at least
four of the following special stations who will be on the air
throughout the year 2001: PI50VRZ/A, PI50CQP/A, PI50V, PI50R,
PI50Z and PI50A. Each week the callsigns PI50V, PI50R, PI50Z and
PI50A will be assigned to 4 of the 18 clubstations participating
in this event and shifting the next week to four other
clubstations until the circle is closed going the whole year
round. QSL needs to be sent via the regular clubstations callsign
i.e. PI4( clubcall) so please ask, if you work a PI50(?), for the
clubstations callsign. The stations will be on all bands all
modes, also during contests etc.... A log file of the four
stations you have heard/worked, signed by two other amateurs, and
accompanied by 5 USD or equivalent will be sufficient to apply
for the award. Send to the manager: Ben Horsthuis, PA0HOR, Fr.
Halsstraat 95, 3781 EV VOORTHUIZEN, The Netherlands."
TX0, CHESTERFIELD ISLANDS (Update). Jacky
F2CW/ZK3CW, Dany F5CW/FK8VHY and two others operators will leave
Noumea on April 24th and hope to arrive at Chesterfield on April
27th. They leave Chesterfield on May 2nd to head back to Noumea
on May 6th. They hope to have 3 stations active for operating on
160-6 meters. They have requsted the callsigns TX0C or TX5C.
TX5, NEW CALEDONIA. Look for FK8GM and FK8HC
to sign with the callsign TX5G during the CQ WPX Contest.
VP5, TURKS & CAICOS ISLANDS. Dave/W5AO,
along with husband/wife team Connie/K5CM and Pam/N5KW, will
operate from the VP5B station on North Cacios Island from March
21st through April 5th. Each operator will sign out the contest
VP5/homecall. They will operate 160-6 meters SSB/CW and will be
active during the CQ WPX SSB Contest as VP5V. QSL cards for
VP5/K5CM and VP5/N5KW go to their home address and for VP5/W5AO
and VP5V, QSL to Box 88, Morris, OK 74445-088.
VP6, PITCAIRN (Possible New One?). The
"Les Novelles DX" is reporting that Jacky, F2CW/ZL3CW,
who was recently active as FK/F2CW and TX5CW from Noumea, will be
traveling with Kan, JA1BK, and has left for Tahiti and Pitcairn.
Over the past weekend, QSNs show that VP6BK and VP6CW were active
on CW on 40 meters and the WARC bands. ADDED NOTE: Word has it
that Kan and Jacky may be on another island close too but far
enough away from Pitcairn Island to qualify for a new DXCC
entity. Kan suggests/hints this on his Web page at: http://www.iijnet.or.jp/JA1BK.
(but in Japanese). Many are guessing that the two are on Ducie
Island (OC-182) which is 540 KM east of Pitcairn (lat/lon
24.40s/124.40w). The two will be coming back to Noumea at the end
of March.
XU, CAMBODIA. XU7ABN has been active on RTTY
on 14085 kHz between 1900 and 0000z.
YV, VENEZUELA (IOTA Activity). Dr. Rick,
NE8Z, will be in Venezuela from March 26th through April 4th
signing YV5/NE8Z from the Caracas area. He will then leave
roughly around March 30th through April 2nd, for "Islas Los
Roques" (IOTA SA-035) signing YV5/NE8Z. He will only be on
28460 kHz on SSB with his TS-50 and dipole antenna. QSL via NE8Z,
Rick Dorsch, Box 616, Hamburg, MI 48139 USA.
ZD7/ZD9, ST. HELENA AND ASCENSION ISLAND.
Glyn, GW0ANA, QSL Manager and Team Member for the ZD7/ZD8
DXPedition advises OPDX that all their gear has arrived safely on
Ascension Island and is waiting their arrival on the 19th of
March. They have be allocated ZD8K for Ascension Island and ZD7K
for St. Helena. The team hopes to be active from ZD8 in the CQ
WPX Contest. Their Web site has been fully updated and looks very
interesting. DXers may want to log on to the neat URL: http://www.dxpedition.co.uk.
